Fantastic news! I was never much into Shadowrun pen and paper, but the games they put out way exceeded my expectations. Tight coding and few bugs. I got through the 1st release without one crash or error. If they bring that level of care to this new project i'll have a one-two BT fix.

Too abd they won't make a proper wahrammer franchise game (or maybe in future)? I really would like to have a TT variant on PC:

If it is a single player campaign rather than multi player then I will drop them some cash no question.

If it is a multi player game then I will pass.

Anyone have any ideas what it will be?

Harebrained Schemes is a serious company and they really do their games with passion (I backed their Shadowrun games). They are not goldiggers trying to rip the Battletech IP. Jesus, the creator of Battletech is there!

I'm supporting this right in the first minute.

I remember to have played a Warhammer 40k pc game (demo found in a gamer magazine) long time ago. It was like 15 years ago, can't remeber if it was even good.

I hope it's multiplayer.

I wanna be the first kid on my block to kill Sean Lang in the game. :D

If it was Dawn of War (2004), yes, it was very good.

Anyone else notice that the Griffin and Locust had the MWO Silhouettes?

And the Atlas and Catapult look pretty close too.

Cool!

From Russ twitter: "Also excited to have an agreement in place with @WeBeHarebrained to bring art style consistency back to the brand."

I agree.... I have all the shadowrun games put out by them... and while its not like the Sega version I had hoped for at some point, They are well put together games that I feel I have truly got every dollar I have spent on them and then some. They included a game editor with shadowrun, that allows anyone who bought the game to create their own missions... or even a full blown game. All of this for the whopping price of only $40 bucks total I believe for both the main game, and the 2nd expansion pack! Money very well spent for what was recieved.... vs. other games that I can not same the same about, (hint, hint.)

While a turn based BT game is not what I really want, I am excited for them to work on this...maybe just one day we will get a combined full sim BT game that also includes indepth RPG.

Yep....still have the whole series of DOW.... DOW II, very good games that got better with each release. Many didn't like the changes they made away from base building in DOW II, but I like it just as much as the DOW titles with base building.

They better!!! LOL! Because as much as I wanted to put some cash into MechWarrior Tactics... I couldn't... I played it at Mech Madness for the Nvidia event years ago... crap game. But... Russ of PGI and the almighty Jordan Weisman running point on the BattleTech pc game... I will throw money at this for development. I've already spent over $1k for MWO... what's a few more $$$'s LOL! :D But, from looking at the artwork posted (albeit concept art) it's clearly MWO Mechs, which I will be more than happy to look at from a different angle than we get now in MWO.

(Left to Right: Griffin, Atlas, Locust, Catapult... all silhouette style of MWO Mech concept art)

Let's just hope that only goes for the artwork, and not for that dynamic weapon crap with which they time and again disfigure Alex' great work.

YES!

...but I swear to god if this game becomes diarrhoea because "But single player experiences are so short and then you put them away and AI is so difficult" I'm going to ask for every last dollar back.

Single player experiences are BETTER. They are more ENGAGING and IMMERSIVE. Where multiplayer games just boil down to elitism, and shunning of lore and setting in order to milk the greatest optimization for use as a skill-crutch. I have never felt nostalgia for a multiplayer game like I have for a single player campaign, because I can't ever feel immersed in one when people are putting eighteen large lasers on a Thunderbolt, or saying "plz gieb pots". Every time I finish a game that I like, it's not long, maybe a year or two, before I pick it up and start playing again. This includes Mechwarrior 2, 3, and 4, which while I can't get 3 to run properly, the mechwarrior 2 series is the game that started it all, and I never got within miles of Netmech.

While yes, I want it...

I don't trust it. At all. If I dump money into this, is it going to just disappear Is it going to be "finished", but in a state so awful it brings shame to the Battletech name?

Without knowing what kind of state it will come out in...I just can't support this.

It's being done by the same team that did the Shadowrun RPG. Hairbrained schemes.
The Shadowrun RPG was a HUGE success on Kickstarter, and the game itself is an excellent representation of the Shadowrun setting. They're about to release a second Shadowrun kickstarter title, too.

I feel like I can trust these guys.

meme

Before you made that meme you could read a little more about the subject. It's not "another company". It's the Battletech creator himself.

And for the record, judging by how Harebrained Schemes do business, this game will be singleplayer oriented (hopefully with some multiplayer support) and not free-to-play. See how they did the campaign for the last game.

  • Harebrained Schemes has indeed the creator of Battletech among their midst, so lore and roots guaranteed
  • They will use PGI art assets (as seen from the silhouets and Russ` tweet of course)
  • Their focus will be a singleplayer mercenary campaign, (but maybe more depending on their KS stretched goals)
  • Their engine used for the Shadowrun games has a tool which allows completely community created campaigns, hopefully they will add/use this for the Battletech game.
  • Their previous kickstarter campaigns/games are all a successes with increasing quality and in-game depth with each installment.
  • Harebrained Schemes delivers, or at least they tell you what to expect
So i'm stoked.. :D
