TACTICAL ‘MECH COMBAT RETURNS TO THE PC.

"Harebrained Schemes is pleased to announce their return to Kickstarter this Fall to partner with Backers in co-funding the creation of BATTLETECH. Jordan Weisman, the creator of BattleTech and MechWarrior, is back with the first turn-based BattleTech game for PC in over two decades. Steeped in the feudal political intrigue of the BattleTech universe, the game will feature an open-ended Mercenaries-style campaign that blends RPG ‘Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn-based tactics."

UPDATE

Back in May, we spoke with Jordan Weisman and Mitch Gitelman of Harebrained Schemes. During our chat, we asked about other upcoming projects at the studio and were told that another of Weisman’s older IPs was under consideration.

Our guesses were Battletech or Crimson Skies, and today we know which. Harebrained Schemes is asking fans to help make Battletech a reality once more.

The Kickstarter will launch this fall for funding of a new, turn-based game set in the world of giant, armed-to-the-teeth mechs. When Harebrained Schemes last ventured to Kickstarter for Shadowrun: Hong Kong, it adopted a matured crowdfunding model.

The studio had base funding to make the game, but asked fans to contribute funds in order to make it a bigger, meatier game. Given the language in the media alert, we suspect the same model will be in play for Battletech when Harebrained Schemes begins to seek assistance later this year.

As for Shadowrun: Hong Kong, it will arrive on August 20. This makes the gap between crowdfunding completion and release a mere six months, delivering on the promise to release the latest installment this summer.-based tactics.

Our Take
I’m thrilled that Battletech is coming back. Given Harebrained Schemes success with its more mature version of crowdfunding, there’s every reason to expect the company to deliver on all its promises in a timely fashion. I’m looking forward to seeing how this comes together."

UPDATE (07/31/15)
Interview with Jordan Weisman
http://www.alistdail...n-of-battletech
"It's PC and Mac, and it's an open-ended mercenary campaign"

"... you'll not only be managing a lance of 'Mechs but also Mechwarriors as well. You have all their careers and their skill trees..."

"We're putting the game back in the original setting in 3025..."

While yes, I want it...

I don't trust it. At all. If I dump money into this, is it going to just disappear Is it going to be "finished", but in a state so awful it brings shame to the Battletech name?

Without knowing what kind of state it will come out in...I just can't support this.

That's exactly what I mean. I don't feel comfortable dumping money and my hopes & dreams onto something that might fail or be garbage.

Harebrained Schemes is a serious company and they really do their games with passion (I backed their Shadowrun games). They are not goldiggers trying to rip the Battletech IP. Jesus, the creator of Battletech is there!

I'm supporting this right in the first minute.

Barebrained Schemes does not have the budget of the AAA companies, but damn if they didn't make the best Shadowrun games yet. They brought the Shadowrun soul to those games.

I'm happy to hear they are going to do the same thing with Battletech.

The Shadowrun games are great. First one lacked a bit in stuff to do for Deckers/Riggers, but a good game. Next one was outright awesome ... counting the days for the 3rd one (August 20th btw.).

Time to keep an eye on Kickstarter again :)

Subscribed, that is exactly what I emailed them about.

Pictures a BT game with out of Mech RPG elements, PvE and PvP, and best of all no pinpoint damage low TTK uber kill stuff.

MWO may become the, "break it out occasionally," BT game.

I never was a Shadowrun player but thought of trying it after seeing it.

Given what they did with Shadowrun, I expect it will be done good.

please let them have any relation to MWO and probably share the same mech models, that would be a great synergy effect.

"harebrained Schemes" that sounds so off

Would be good if the game also give us some tools for the tabletop CBT, like printable sheets and hexgrid maps based on those in-game.
