Ok, so, I play mostly on weekends and on weekday mornings (I livestream weekdays, from around 5:30 EST to 8 or 9 AM). I don't play Skirmish, just not fond of it. I didn't change my play habits for the soon to be concluded European Invasion event (the rewards are worth chump change, I just consider them a nice extra for doing what I'd do anyway: play the game). But the event has given me some interesting data. Now, I'm just a single data point, so it could just be a fluke, but... I've maxed out the rewards for EU Assault and Conquest, maxed out NA Assault, and I sit at 14/24 for NA Conquest. I have to do a little bit of a double take on that last one.

Do American players really dislike Conquest THAT much? I mean, I think it's the best game mode currently. It encourages fighting, disincentivizes camping, upset victories happen (yes, you usually win by fighting, but I've seen plenty of games where the team getting out fought wins on points), and it generally offers better c-bill rewards. I've just found that Conquest offers an overall better play experience.

I didn't like it.
I don't like respawns
almost all strategic decision afforded a player in open matches are eliminated and replaced with chokepoint attack/defend
Mech selection is even less diverse than open games
Tremendous wait times
Cheese tactics occurs far more often.
Game mode is designed to stress win at any cost over fun.

And for me if it isn't fun it isn't worth doing.

Conquest, not Community Warfare. Y'know, regular queue, 5 capture points?

I am not a fan of conquest as well (although not as negative as I am about CW).

Most of the issue I have is with PUG matches, where any/any is the default. I always seem to end up on the team with 3 Dires and 3 panther. Conquest is such a specialized environment that played should have to actively add it to rotation. The game can easily be won or lost by a couple of fast mechs.

Conquest has become my favourite actually.
It's the most likely to encourage me to use the entire map.
It's the most likely to create a unique gameplay experience (no specific attack/defend bottleneck).
I tend to make the most cash off of it.
And it often can go any way or another before the match ends.

I think it's because the capture points when capped cause less play time, where most want a full and good(maybe) match of blowing up mechs.

conquest isn't assault though, it almost never ends without a lot of fighting

Skirmish is the mode I hate the most, just line up and shoot. Feels like I'm fighting back in the 1800's in a mech. conquest has been my main foucus since i started playing with this event though I'll be adding assault back into rotation. I hated when they added those turrets and the game is much better without. Conquest gives everyone something to do. To damaged to continue fighting? Go cap, sure you still might get blown up but hey you were still helping the team not sitting back hoping not to get hit. Forces players to DO something. I hate sitting around waiting for one team to blindly run into the other, because everyone is trying to avoid everyone else until they're 'ready'. conquest you know as soon as you start that cap enemies are a coming. And like OP said upsets, nothing more nail biting then watching the points tick while the last person(s) fight for there life against overwhelming odds.

No conquest, thank you.
Skirmish suits me more.

At least with Conquest you don't have to worry about the Hill on Alpine :)

For me, Assault > Skirmish > Conquest.
Though this only happened once they removed the turrets, before that happened assault would've been on the opposite end.

Conquest and skirmish are good. Playing assault on river city with the lrm turrets was tedious, so that's been de-selected.

Yeah, especially on the larger maps like alpine and terra it takes the focus away from the usual spots. Both maps are quite fun when the fighting takes place around the map and not only on the hill or at mount doom.

It was. But River City has been changed around a lot, and the turrets are gone.

we had that thread from a NA palyer complaining about how EU's are too afraid to push. Which EU's replied to tactics.
Now you can guess that conquest is the most tactical mode that MWO has. Not much tactical at all, but the most form MWO point of view.
SO this mode does not offer blindly rushing against each other, which seems against the most NA players nature.

I normally have all variables on. But for the challenge I shut it down to Skirmish since I had 3 matches and then assault.

The only problem I have with conquest is the silly placement of the markers
