Title says it all. The override toggle sucks. Can we not get a menu option like arm lock where we can pick whether we want override to be a toggle or the original way, which was more like EVERY OTHER MECHWARRIOR GAME where you pressed it every time you wanted to avoid shutdown.

I hate the toggle. It blows. It's annoying and highly prefer the old way. The toggle requires me to press it twice, it is a doubling of keystrokes. It is insane to run around with the toggle constantly active. With the old system that all previous games used, it was purely situational. You pressed it once and it went away after a few seconds. It was perfect.

Personally I like the toggle as it is and found the old method to be completely useless as the override would turn off far too quickly without mashing the hell out of the button, but I'm not against having options.

We should have two separate key bindings in settings.
Also, put an option to always begin a match with override on.
Finally, switch that annoying, big flashing, red message for something like NARC message.

It’s a crazy way to set up a game

After they changed the heat override I went to the testing grounds

And leaving the override on meant that I blew up on the second over heat

Doing it the old way I went 23 times

Now I hardly use the override when I over heat I either come back or die in a hail of fire

In fact I just came in from a match where 3 of use died from overheating that’s 25% and that’s only the ones I observed

We would have died anyway but its like aircraft being destroyed on the ground in a battle and we all know they only award the title of Ace to actively fighting aircraft not to ones that are parked on the ground

The OP has a good idea that should be implemented

Maybe bind to key to elsewhere.

I got my Override bound to a button on my mouse. Not that I remember to use it nearly as much as I should :P

I have it bound to tilde, which I think switches your AMS off/on by default. Reaching for that O key just takes too long when you really need it now, which is every time you use it.

Anyway the problem was it automatically switching off when you still need it, and always when you have other things demanding your attention. This way we are in control. I have no objection to a menu option, but I'd hate for it to go back to the way it was.

Did I ever say I like the old version better?
Was talking to the people with pressing the button issues.

It is an "issue" because it is redundant pressing. I have to press once to turn on, again to turn off.

Before I pressed once.

It is twice as much work. It is a bad system. The old way worked good for a reason.

I love it. It's much better for when it is time to die a glorious death.

I'm sorry to say but this is one of those problems that is not even close to a problem. Learn to press a button to turn something on and again to turn something off shouldn't be too complicated for anyone.

Learn? I already learned the old way. The way that was used since 1995. The way this game started with. It was simpler and more intuitive. There's no reason we can't have both like with the arm lock menu selection.

The older way is more efficient.

I suppose having both systems available wouldn't be a bad thing. Just saying that the toggle shouldn't be too hard to get used to. It's not like there are no signs if it's on or off.

I like the current version, but there's no reason there couldn't be both options. A short lasted override button and a toggle button wouldn't exactly complicate things more than they are already (which is only moderately so anyhow).

I would prefer having an additional option in the settings because I always turn it on. I rarely die by accident and only if I'm not careful in my lights. And going up to 105 % doesn't even net damage most of the times.

Shutting down means death, getting some damage on some of my components is nothing.

It is fine as it is, but they need to add a notification if it's enabled or not.

My only complaint is not being able to toggle it back off before your mech finishes powering back off.

Trust me, you'll feel differently after you get Terra Therma five times in a row. You know, the map that no matter where you are, your loadout that runs perfectly heat efficient on any other map causes you to overheat all the time. Then you'll appreciate not having to mash the override button During firefights.

The override in the other MW games worked different than the old version of override. It lasted longer. They decided to make it a toggle instead of making it last longer. Things are different in this than what we got used to in prior versions. Just like coolant flush worked better, just like lasers were instant hit instead of burn over time, just like gauss did not need charge up, just like gauss was not a glass cannon, and just like LBX was an effective brawling weapon. Lots have changed, and will continue changing in this game. Adapt.
