Apparently any change to the mech that causes you to have to *SAVE* changes will cause the portrait to update. Here are things that I tested that got my portrait changes to happen after saving them:
- Change a color
- Change pattern
- Weapon removal (remove a weapon > save > replace weapon > save)
- Ammunition removal (remove 1 ammo block > save > replace ammo block > save)
- Ammunition location (move 1 ammo block to a different section > save)
- Heat Sink removal (same as ammunition removal)
- Heat Sink location (same as ammunition location)
- Additional System removal (same as ammunition removal, tested with TAG and Active Probe)
- Armor changes (remove > save > replace > save or just adjusting what is armored and where)
- OmniPod removal (remove > save)
Note: Changing your weapon groupings, despite requiring you to save your changes before leaving does *NOT* change your portrait!
I do not know if changing cockpit items or modules will affect the mech's portrait or not. My knee-jerk assumption is that either one of these will cause things to change, but I do not know as I have not tested either one of them.
I hope this helps those folks who don't want to spend a lot of time mucking about in colors or patterns that they're happy with.

Still seeing when I add Modules, the list resorts every time I add one.

It's still quite playable in the 300 ping range.
From Sydney Australia I get 350 ping on average to the Euro server, 250 on average to the NA server.
I am going to expect maybe 150 ping to Oceanic but will find out when I get home to test it.
Hope our Western Australia mechwarriors get under 100.
It has felt like it has been a lot quicker/easier to get into the matches with the additional server, hopefully more so now.
Great to see these things happening with MWO, it's really come along in leaps and bounds over the last year.

The group I play with is primarily Aussies. (I'm UK specifically.)
It's certainly easier with lower ping though.

Secondly, I'd like to point out 2 issues that I've seen so far:
1. The new glass looks horrible! The previous effects looked much more like real glass with protective/anti-glare coating.
2. As before, the game doesn't save the mech selection filter configuration which is very annoying, especially now that trial mechs are displayed by default and you need to filter them out, after each match.
