We all know about the hunchback: a reliable 50 tonner with a huge gun or many lasers and even missiles galore.(as in very quirked lrm 10s heheh)

Have you ever heard of it's younger sister, the, hunchback iic? Course' you have! (Least I think)

Like it's Inner Sphere counterpart, this mech has the same engine cap, but that's not bad, considering now you can xl without having to worry about your big gun falling off and thus insta death.

Which leads me to it's design.

Let's compare. There are now actually many different features noticed immediately, both by look and on paper:

The hunchback iic now has two huge gun racks instead of 1, which makes it that much more intimidating.

It's arms are now full, and are circular like as opposed to rectangle like arms, as well as it's legs now more sleek in design than of rugged legs.

It's torso is now shifted into what seemingly looks like chest plate as armor, but that won't stop it from having good hit boxes which I'll explain later.

One thing that you cannot see from the concept art is this: jump jets. Unlike the Inner Sphere hunchback, it never had jump jets. The placements are likely to be both in the rear torso and legs, or just the legs itself.

Now we're here about problems with the hunchback iic:

Like the previous model, the iic variants will have a incredulous time dealing with the shoulders. Although they are not as big as the IS version, they will hinder the pilot's blind sides, meaning it will be hard to maintain a good self awareness unless it is given a seismic or a uav to compensate.

Most weapons on the variants are torso mounted, save for the extra variant, meaning that if there's a enemy above you but you torso pitch is not high enough you cannot hit them, rendering arms useless in combat expect for shielding which may not help much at all.

Since some variants allow 2 ballistics per torso, that means they will be placed below the gun, preferably where beneath the gun mounts it curves seemingly as if another gun was there before the final product during refit that was taken off. (Basically like second mount placement as seen in IS hunchbacks)

Very little quirks will be given, specifically armor and structure, in that it is very easy to aim and hit the side torsos of the mech, which can lead to zombification if not running a xl (something that some have dreamed of in a clan mech with ct weapons). Thus, nerfs will be very minimal, and any rant thread (I think) will be overzealous, yeah sure it has firepower, but at a cost of visibility and ammo count.

Regardless of what happens, it will be a all around mech to have handy in cw and a fun mech to play in groups for the public que IMO.

Also hate asking but mcgral18, could you give a approximate on the jump jet height?

Short Summary:

2 big guns instead of 1!!!!

Jump jets!

Blind spots.

Side torsos possibly magnets for damage.

Quirked little for side torsos and blind spots.

More fuller in shape than is version.

Guns, guns, and more guns (same can be said for missiles)

Fun mech to play in public que or cw.

Can xl finally!(yes!!! :D)

It will all depend on the ct hitboxes. If they make them tiny like on a hellbringer, they will be good . if they make them large like on a Summoner or nova they will suck.

I didn't add it in because I believe everyone knows, but the side torsos are going to be magnets for weapons, they may not be as big as the original, but they sure do stick out enough to show them off.

It will jump the same as any 50 tonner with 4 JJs, ~42M

Hunch IIC jumps

Weapon wise, some current Hunches compare pretty well. Grid Iron and Hunch 4J meet or exceed what the IIC variant can do (a tad differently), and the 4SP has slightly less missile DPS, but more lasers (something like penta isSPL is pretty brutal and heat efficient, or typical hot 5 MLs).

The rest of the Hunches don't compare as nicely, but the 4J has 15% more DPS than a quad LRM15+A than the missile IIC would have, using just 2 LRM10s. Both fully moduled up, of course.

Hmm that second energy based variant is going to be a pain to level.... Wait....

PARTYBACK IIC!?

On a more serious note I'm going to run a srm + Artemis build for the missile based variant, I dislike use clam lrms even if they are microquirked.

XL255, endo, ferro, 2LPL, 6ERSL, JJs. 26 damage ridge hump, 56 damage brawler. Can fit a lot of DHS still with that build.

Or 2 LPL 4ERML

I might go all spl and the biggest engine you can take with jump jets and as many dhs I can fit :P

Though your build seems good, I prefer srm builds in that I can shoot and turn away from the enemy as I jump jet up. It's what I've been doing with the scat, and it's pretty fun.

The regular hunchback feels like a solid mech and I really like it... but when compared to this it will feel limited :(
Resistance 2 mechs hardly get any jumping ability, so unfair.

The gap really isn't that far.

Only the Energy variant and PGI variant bring something new and exciting. Energy bringing the good Clam lasers in a 6-8 bunch, the optimal amount (unlike the other 2 variants which only have 2E hardpoints). The P variant lets you bring 4 lasers and 2 Ballistics. Max engine, 4 ERMLs, 4 heatsinks 1JJ allows for a 12 ton Dakka with 4 tons of ammo. Either an AC20 of your choosing, or a Gauss (with 3 tons of ammo, leaving room for a 15th heatsink or 3JJs).

The Grid Iron already pumps Gauss out at 2.07 second intervals, as opposed to 2 shells every 4.07 seconds. It brings lasers while doing that, either faster with a fragile XL, or similar speed with a STD.

Missile variant, 4J hands down wins with LRMs. 15% better than the quad LRM15. SRMs is a tad in the favour of the IIC, because only a 40% quirk. 13.95DPS for the 4SP SRMs, to the 14.46DPS of the IIC missiles.

4SP mounts more lasers, and can win the overall DPS race there, but hinders in the twisting aspect.

4G doesn't quite have double recycle, and will have a hard time against 2 UAC20s. A single UAC20, I'd bet on the 4G, but 2 start to simply overwhelm it in damage, and the isAC advantage doesn't quite make up for 4x damage potential (on a good roll).

Most Hunches use a STD engine, with the help of a dozen tons saved from quirks, plus the 30 IS+A they get from quirks. They'll be durable, but the IIC have 2 hunches to chew through, which is more than quirks give the IS hunches.

Some compare nicely, others, not so much. We'll see how it goes, since the IIC can also jump.

2 x gauss will always beat chain gauss at same dps. Hunch will do great, not so sure about orion and highlander, will be fun to find out...

I expect the Hunchie 2 to be a glass cannon. You can fit tons of firepower in it for its size, and it has some pretty decent hardpoints. I plan on trying:

- 2 Gauss, 2CERSL, 170 XL
- 3 CUAC5, 2CERML, 200 XL
- 4 CUAC2, 200 XL (Probably won't be that amazing, but may be fun.)
- 2 CERLL, 4 CERML, 250 XL

If I ever get a Hunchie IIC, I'll mount Dual CUAC10s and tear stuff up mid to close range. As long as RNGesus is with me, I can do almost double the DPS of Hunchie 4G. :D

I'm actually tempted to make a Griffin 2N with double LRM20+Artemis and Tag and pretend to be an HBKIIC.

i think i'll opt for 2UAC10+2CERMPL or 3UAC5. Gausses in the torso? no thx.unless it does have RT LT armor quirks.

also i hope it doesnt have any hardwired JJs or heatsinks.

2UAC10 build it's really promising... im a big fan of 2UAC10+ERPPC WHK and 4UAC10+6CERSL DWF
