But confusing "having fun" and "some good screenies" with being a Good Mech? Nope, not buying.
Who cares about the "comp crowd"? Honestly. If your only goal in MWO is to field 12 of the same laser vomit/gauss builds and lights with small pulse lasers, while you're welcome to do that, it doesn't mean you're good.

Way to miss the point. Point is, it' snot that good a mech. If it was, it would see more use in Higher Elo. Like many mechs, including some bad ones, it can have good matches, especially in PUGlandia. That doesn't make it a good mech. And promoting it as one is prety dishonest, IMO.
Is it fun? Sure. Can some people do pretty decent in it, or even have a great screenie match? Yup. and so can Locusts, Commandos, SPD-5Vs, VNDs, etc. Whoop. De. Doo.

If you play it right, to it's strengths imo it is a good mech. It's really one of those "to each their own" scenarios.

Yes, if you consistently play sub caliber competition, it indeed will provide some good matches. And against decent competition, you'll probably find yourself on those odd losing streaks in it. To each their own.

Lacks hardpoints
Lacks podspace
Has a useless 2 ton MASC
6 LOCKED JJs

Whelp, there you have it, proof Mr Gargles is good, and that LB-5X and SRM4s are a comp tier build! Whoot!
Not trying to denigrate your match, but pointing out that an occasional good match? Doesn't actually mean the Robot is good.
You are absolutely right. And the same goes for this mech being consistently good for me (way less derp matches, way higher overall scores) as I am just one pilot. I just wanted to underline that the Shadowcat as it is works fine for some people.
To keep this post in line with the others' anecdotal nature: I had my very best matches in pre-quirked Gargoyles, so yes those are great, too. And Summoners of course.

Its terrible DPS makes it a bad mech for comp, no one is (or should be) denying that. However that is 1% of the game, and you are normally the last one to write things off as bad because they are not comp viable.

This is also not true, you get plenty of good competition in the group que on a regular basis, hell a team I was on tonight pretty much rolled The Beef and a bunch of his guys, and I'd consider them pretty good players. At this point you're just talking nonsense.

All the other Mechs in that pack are worth having, however.

HAve never said it's bad. I have said, and continue to say that those championing it as actually "good" are either letting having a few high scores (almost certainly achieved by MM giving them a favorable match, like most really good scores) or even a handful of people who legitimately rock the chassis (like Jman does HBK-4J, or I do with VNDs) doesn't make the mech good.
It's fun as heck, but mediocre, at best a tier 3. Realistically, borderline tier 4. The handful of "good builds" for it, other Robots run better.
It is what it is. It's not bad. But is certainly isn't GOOD, either.

one of these posts, we'll sit down and explain nature of MM, mkay (Or spend some time researching Elo Hell)? But by all means, keep preaching the Church of Scat. It's truly the most amazing robot ever. MMMMMMhmmm.

Yeah my elo must suck, We never face EMP or CSJx ever! oh wait we do. The idea that you're trying to put forth that the scat can only be useful against terrible players just isn't accurate. And I'm calling you on that. You may struggle doing well with the scat, but there are far far worse mechs in the game.

Having said that, it is not the best medium. It's usefulness is extremely situational. I think of it like the Clan version of the Cicada. You will find it excels at flanking and harassing. It is best to have the enemy focused on something other than your Shadowcat, like maybe a Direwolf (LOL!!). So, it supports heavies and assaults well. I think it is probably the worst mech of the wave. The extreme lack of hardpoints really makes the Shadowcat weak. I have found a few decent builds that I like, it is not like the typical Clan mech that can do everything well. It is very squishy, like a Cicada, so standing there and duking it out with ANYTHING is not a good idea. It's speed is too low and MASC is disappointing. It takes quite awhile to figure out the Shadowcat's strengths and how to utilize them (yeah, I am still working on this).
As I could give a hoot about the elite groups of players, the Shadowcat suits me just fine. I seriously doubt it will get nerfed into the ground like the TBR did and the EBJ will. I have found it a joy to pilot. It may not be for you, but what mech fits everyone's play style?

Everyone plays with everyone. MWO Elo is the team average with a 1000 Elo threshold.

I'm going to have to disagree with these two. The acceleration given by MASC is great. The locked jumped jets make the Shadowcat almost fly. The combination of the two ...

However, the lack of fire power makes it a favorite target of those that are fast enough to catch it, so when it is seen, and it isn't in position to be covered by it's teammates, while screaming to itself get it off me get it off... you get this:
