So, you basically have zero evidence to support your claims immature insults and just threw out that link in the vain hope that it somehow helps your case?

You are adorable. Last I checked, Singapore STILL has some of the cheapest yet most efficient Internet connections anywhere on the world, and I don't see any censorship for any online game I have played since ever in my entire life here in Singapore.

In fact, what does being an "autocratic"(top kek) country got to do with Internet connectivity? Last I checked, Australia is a bloody ocean away and I am pretty sure that's got something to do with it.

Edit: You know, for a supposedly 38-year old person, you don't know how to be mature about a topic.

sadly, in internet anonymity-land, age and maturity do not go hand in hand.

Most people revert to adolescent entitled rage rants on the interwebz, it seems.

I'm not savvy about internets and firewalls, I use them but I'm not expert in their functions.

I can say that I live in WA USA and get 200 ping in euro and oceanic and 100 ping on NA.

All completely playable.

I understand they are having disconnect issues but I don't feel like their addition of a SEA server is bad. Not great, sure but good enough for a server launch.

Also wanted to tell you to not be such a wiseass with your posts, it doesn't benefit the message and is a pet peeve of mine.

I ran a traceroute once and it went directly to Taco Bell... Apparently my PC, like me has an affinity for tasty "meat like" fillers and hot sauce.

It seems like almost everyone has 250-300+ ping on the oceanic server.

Except for an extremely small demographic of people who live in singapore (inside the firewall where traffic is unfiltered).

I wouldn't be surprised if OP was right.

It seems World of Tanks has a server in singapore and high ping has been an issue since 2012.

http://forums.whirlp...archive/1982158

Star Citizen also went with a singapore server.

https://forums.rober...ture-is-created

Whether its good or bad, it must be a standard practice in the gaming industry.

edit -

Australians having high ping could be a result of their own countries internet traffic filtering.

https://en.wikipedia...iltering_trials

According to the above link ^ australia's internet packet filtering went live sometime around 2012. That could be the same year ping from australia to singapore increased from 100 to 300.

Coincidence?

What a load of crap.

Singapore hosts lots of gaming servers, and for good reason. They have excellent infrastructure.

I'm not in Singapore yet I have played a whole bunch of games hosted on Singaporean servers and the connection is usually excellent and stable. Whenever it isn't, the problem is usually caused by poor routing by the ISP.

Wrong.
Australia has aging infrastructure and its not going to change any time soon due to the current governments backward thinking.

200 ping.

And "stable".

Don't really go together.

By all indications ping from australia to singapore jumped from 100 to 300 in 2012.

2012 was also the year australia's internet filtering went into effect.

All of the above is bad.

But do you know what the worst thing about this is?

The fact that people need me -- an american to inform them of these basic facts.

When you need an american to keep you informed of world events you know you're hitting rock bottom.

Regardless of the reasons, the Oceanic server is really rough. It started out spotty when I was playing this weekend, but I have a constant ping around 230 and I disconnect more and more. At first I didn't disconnect often, but today it got really horrible. Out of ten games, five dropped and couldn't reconnect at all at the start of the matches. Two dropped half way through the matches, with one reconnect and one unable to reconnect. Three games played all the way through. A grand total of 4/10 matches with one successful reconnect is not very good. I have little to no problem with other online games, and the servers in Europe and the Americas work 9/10 times for me.

That isnt true. Everyone knows the best mech porn can only be found on the Playboy site... and as the OP so well worded and intelligent reasoning proved. you cant access that due to an evil government conspiracy to keep all foreign nipples for themselves.

Dear Dimwits PGI,

Let me explain something to you:
Since the early 90's, Singapore Internet - ALL OF TRAFFIC - has to go through a censorship proxy. I lived there for 10 years, i still know the proxy settings by heart. You cannot go in or out without traffic being passed through the great firewall of Singapore.

According to tracer i am running there is huge packet-loss to you sh.itbox server WITHIN SINGAPORE. That's what happens when you chose an autocratic dictatorship for a location. Try China or North Korea next. See if that works out for you...
[...]

I read this with the calmest of moods. Interested, attentive, willing to understand.

What I absolutely fail to understand is: Why do you insult PGI for the Singapore censorship?
Do you feel that it is their inherent duty to know and understand all the crazyness going on there before having ever set foot (metaphorically speaking) there?
Would you want them to rather not setup an oceanic server (FREE oceanic server) at all?
Or wouldn't you prefer them to set it up, run into your crazyness trouble and then work to resolve it?

With the friendliest and calmest intention :): are you an idiot?

My ping is 110-130 to Singapore, from Melbourne, which is about as far east from Singapore as you can get in Australia. I have a friend in Perth with a ping of 80 or so - it's about 3500km from there to the oceanic servers. I have another friend in the same place with a ping to Singapore of about 300, because for some reason, his ISP decided his packets need to go on an adventure before they get to our game servers.

Someone made a comment about Australia's infrastructure being poor, and this is entirely correct. We have a vast and ageing warren of copper forming the backbone of our networks (seriously vast - look at the distances that need to be cabled in Australia to get from one end to the other) and a more modern fiber network being rolled out... that stops at the node.

While there is apparently an internet filter in place, many tech websites have proven it to be either woefully ineffective or non-existent. A review under the freedom of information act found that it had only blocked a handful of websites after it was introduced, and a large number of those were legitimate sites that had their block lifted.

Our country can't make tech legislation to save itself.

ping greatly depends on your routing, you can send a e-mail to pgi if your routing is atrocious, they can help; your isp can help too but they easily can ignore your request
