Huncies mount ST engines, still have decent speed and can mount pretty good quantity of energy weapons.

But will be able to compete with the laser vomit from the likes of the Nova and Stormcrow?
I don't think so. Not without investing in a large enough XL engine.

I don't know... I'd prefer to wait until it's released before speculating too much.

Theoricrafting before the release is like a game.
With that said, it depends on hitboxes and quirks

It can be like a stalker, so SD in it, and is still possible to do good theoricrafting with it.

Or it can be all CT a la dragon, xl friendly, so something like this:

or this:

I hope to have a lot of fun with it, because I like it from ages ago, it is very beautiful

I remember when folks said the King Crab wouldn't be viable in MWO because it is so wide. Amazing what happens when a mech is actually brought into the game and now they are all over the place. I will wait till I have seen the mech in combat before I say it is DOA.

I'm pretty sure that before its release, I remember people saying the opposite of that: That the King Crabby was too small and would thus be power creep over other assaults.

I ordered the Wolfhound and Crab, both packages that I doubt will add anything new to the field except I enjoyed those mechs in TT.

it is gonna be like the Stalker for sure, with reliance on Std engine.

What do you guys think?

I think most people erroneously think Stalkers are "tanky".

Their hitboxes aren't tanky unless you run asymmetric builds (Misery).

Their hitboxes are generally awful - Stalkers make it work because they have supreme high weapon mounts, and because they can be energy boats running a STD engine doesn't interfere as much as it would if they were ballistic heavy.

What all this means for the crab is that it will either be like the Stalker where STD is mandatory (enormous side torsos) or it will be like the Catapult where you might as run XL since you are a giant CT.

Neither is a good prospect for a medium mech with a few meager high mounts.

On the 350 engine variant:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...628f48a178ec1de

Pretend the LRM 10s are LLs and the ammo is medium laser.

On the JJ variant:

Maybe drop to a 295 and add a second JJ not sure.

Well, the Stalker is good at protecting its CT, not necessarily good at retaining its weaponry...

It's also one of the few cases where a STD engine really makes a difference for lifespan.

There are still some oddballs that cling to the King Crab being superior to the Direwolf.

So, it is what it is.

Can't escape such logic.

I see the Crab and also am hoping. That the crab will be like the other 50 ton mediums. The centurion, hunchback, enforcer, and nova (trash bucket excluded) are all great at what they do which is usually support brawlers. They run with the pack of assaults or heavies and get their damage in while other mechs are made priority. Usually do to high alpha weapons or builds that are pin point ... example is the AC20 for the centurion, enforcer, and hunchy as well as laser builds like small pulses on a nova or hunchy. There are other builds but they all basically see their role as support brawlers because when you usually have an option between TBR or one of these mechs most shoot the TBR or STK or Dire Whale or ... than one of these mechs.

So again I hope it can fill this role like the others, unlike the TRASH BUCKET ... trebuchet.

As for the Dire Whale vs King Crab ... I put my money on the Dire Whale (although if King Crab has better pilot then maybe the King Crab but if it is mech vs mech then Dire Whale).

Keeping a CT with no weapons, or one E hardpoint is pretty pointless though.

It's the one case where STD makes a difference for lifespan, where XL is a death sentence and where you can't go faster even you took an XL negating a large portion of the benefit of taking one in the first place*.

Those legs look like they took one of Armored Core V's heavy reverse joint legs section, replaced the feet, and pasted them onto it. It looks cool but also reminds me how much better ACV is than MWO.

looks good

its interesting design, won't be doing much torso twisting with it though, unless the arms can shield the sides effectively.

Being meta has never worried me, so as long as its fun, I'll enjoy it
