Some can argue that it could be different or better in various ways, but the core game itself does fit the criterion of the MW PC game series.

If you judge the MechWarrior-ness on the SP campaign (OP), then this one is not.

In case you failed to notice, most games of this nature are currently played as online multiplayer almost exclusively. Halo? CoD? Gears of War? There's plenty out there. The paradigm has changed.
PGI skipped the idea of the solo campaign that most people only play through once or twice (if that) and went straight for the online multiplayer, PvP that comprises most of the life of games in this genre. Was that the right decision? Well, it HAS worked so far.
I think it would be an interesting idea if, after the NPE gets done, PGI offered a handful of single player and/or small group cooperative scenarios for MC unlock.

The problem seems to be that you think there's only one definition of fun: yours.
Some people think stamp collecting is incredibly fun. Know what I think would make stamp collecting "more fun"? Setting the damnable stamps on fire and doing damn near anything else.
Fun is subjective.

Virtually all other MW games didnt advertise themselves as a BT game either
orly?
Just to show a pic of the one game cover art where everyone gets all misty eyed notalgic (including myself I must confess).
Oh... and as a bonus... how about this abomination which is so bad it even needs its own spoiler tag to hide behind... try saying MWO is less BT than this next example

No, it's not a Mechwarrior game. This is the reason why.

Well, let me put it this way.
Fundamentally speaking, this game is more or less the same it is in Open Beta. It's just now deathmatch 4 ways with a lot more mechs.
I'm unsure if we'll ever get beyond what most people keep repeating as "potential" but never capitalizing on it. For PGI to have underachieved for this long, and people "accepting" it (regardless of the reasons/excuses)... well... it is what it is.
There are other games after all.. vying for my attention.

If you aren't having fun, go away. Stop playing. Play those other games. Me? I still play MWO because I still think it's fun. Are you one of those whackjobs that gets offended by people enjoying things that you don't?

I can only take small doses of MWO.
I'm not offended if people enjoy MWO... I just think it's lunacy to think this is sustainable long term.
When you have enough people intentionally not playing MWO, and those people collectively play another game for a significant bit due to boredom of MWO... well, it is what it is.
