Because sneaky is what the Atlas was designed for huh?

Well it is normally loaded with knife fighting weapons, that can shred a back pretty fast.

sarlic, do you have any info, if atlas get some new quirks soon ?

Nope. I haven't heard anything.

Frankly PGI didn't asked me for advice either. Not that it matters, but when Russ was far more active on the forums i expressed my concerns already in the past how things would develop for both vets and new players. Also talked about the red eyes and how Russ thought it that he was under the impression that players found the Red eyes a stupid thing.

I don't pretend to be a comp or pro player, but i know the ins and out of the Atlas. And i'm not the only one. There are other players, perhaps you who know who still play the Atlas despite it's obvious shortcommings.

Guess i only can hope for the best as far the rebalance concerns.

My Dire can shred a back too, as can the average light these days. Atlas should be capable of being an "in your face" brawler. It currently is not, and really has no role that it shines in that can't be done better by other chassis. Before the fan bois start having a nerdgasim, I didn't say the Atlas was useless. I just want to see it have a purpose again.

I guess this depends on the pilot more than the Mech. A Dire or a Timber I try to backstab or keep to a side, anything else I go face to face pretty well and I'm old and slow. ;)

With some exceptions, a brawler Atlas will have an AC20, 3 srm6 and maybe some minor energy combo. This has a reasonable punch out to 270 ish metres. The thing is, my Dire running 4 CUAC10's and a CERLL, can double tap and dish out 91 damage inside the first second - and do this past 500m, then another 80 damage about a second after that. By the time an Atlas has run its 4 seconds cooldown, or even 3 seconds with bonuses - it's dead.

I know you said you try to avoid Dires et.al, but my point is that you shouldn't have to. An Atlas should still lose to a well set up Dire with a good pilot, but the return damage inflicted by the Atlas on the Dire should be such that a Dire really doesn't want to try.

That's so scary!
Meanwhile you can build a Stormcrow with UAC20, 3xSRM6 and 5xERSL (101 damage alpha using ultra-mode).

And you know what? Nobody runs that build, because there are lots of better options...

You might give +50 armor to every location on an Atlas and all it will accomplish is that the Clanners will earn more C-Bills. (damage dealt = money)

Must agree on this.
- put +50 armor quirks on each part of atlas, and vuala, fortress can survive. Not punchin as hard as DWF, but with more survivalibility.

LEARN2PLAY HIDE BEHIND ROX AND TORSO TWIST LOLOL

ATLAS IS SUPER GREAT MECH IT HAS LOW HARDPOINTS AND CAN SHOOT UNDER BRIDGES GUD.

I CAN KILL LIKE 3 DIRE WOLFS PER GAME WITH MY ATLAS BY SNEAKING BEHIND THEM YOU NEED TO LERN 2 BE MORE SNEAKY

No, you misread me... I can torso twist my ass off and get out of sick situations even in an atlas, What I CANT do is avoid a 108 plus damage single shot that I get the SECOND I walk out of cover for the barest of seconds.

Id go so far as to say noone could

thats what teammates are for. hide behind them and walk into them from behind so they cant retreat and make them take all the hits for you.

I haven't seen 108 point alphas since closed beta! What is throwing that much damage at you in one pull?

I fairly recently mastered 3 Atlai, and I really actually found them enjoyable, I did pretty solid in all of them, averaged over 300 damage a game which isn't mind blowing but isn't bad. Really, my only complaint is that the arms are too low compared to how tall the mech is.

They aren't even close to as game altering as they used to be for sure, but good piloting, lots of armor, and a decent loadout can go a long way to reminding the upstarts that the ole Atlas is still a mean machine.

I really miss the feeling you had of piloting an Atlas back in beta. It felt like an unstoppable killing machine that could take so much damage and keep on going. When you turned a corner and ran into one it was an "oh ****" moment. Now it's almost surprising to see one in game and you know its right torso is going to be gone in four seconds. An Arctic Cheater is more menacing.

That feeling of fear needs to be brought back.

this. and the reason is, the mech is like it was before, but all the rest (weapons, clan gear, higher alpha) improved

Now, the WTF moment is turning that corner to see that gigaspike daishi. but even that, after 2000 times, doesnt even impress anymore.

back there, feelings were "ooomphh! Atlas! run run run!" actual feeling are "here we go... 3 little buggers squirreling in the middle of the brawl.. drawing fire as we get stomped. great." OR "Oh look.. another 2Gauss+2CERLPL+6CERML daishi..."

It's not bad. But other Assaults can do the same job much better and frankly the Highlander and Zeus practically out armor the Atlas due quirks.

but that won't be enough as the current atlas is too bulky and looks like a neckless bodybuilder as it also deals with side torsos that are easily able to be blown off(i see atlases without side torsos very often), ergo why not give it a rework
that gives cosmetic and hitbox changes with a few quirks.

Why not invest in game mechanics that take into account the interaction between mech volume/geometry/artistic interpritation and speed. That way you can correct for the missing parts of the TT to FPS port that remains a central pillar to PGI's design paradigm of minimally viable product.

Focus should be on either Bolstering Armor/Structure on its torso's, or some agility for twist speed/arms IMO.

Some heatgen quirks couldn't hurt either.
