I know I am going to catch flack for this because macros are allowed in MWO. However, to me it is in the same catagory as a wall hack or aimbot. A program outside of MWO that allows players to play the game at a level not possible by any means other than a computer. A computer program is firing the weapon for you while all you do is hold the button down.

Here is an example:

Am I out of line with these feelings towards macros? I refuse to use them because I think it's fighting dirty. What do you guys think?

Umm that isn't hard to do with a mouse, set 2 each and chainfire. The computer program is THE GAME. That is exactly what it sounds like.

They're allowed, so why limit yourself?

A few are handy. I have yet to find one that's game-breaking (it's a gimp on gauss and any weapon combination). Most of the ones I use are simply things like air/arty going to the same key, having a toggle version of "Q," a 5-second override rather than permanent, etc.

Not like that sorry. I have made this build. Put them on chain fire in two groups like you say. No matter how fast I mash the mouse button. They never fire that fast.

So what? You still can't exceed the refire time on the weapons so what is gained other than increased damage spread (hint, thats bad)

You can just use the "use first/second consumable slot" key instead. Just put your strike consumable on the respective slot.

AC chain-fire macro is hardly game breaking. In fact it makes the mech perform arguably worse due to less front loaded alphas.

The only macro I've ever used was to toggle TAG on, which should have been in the game anyway. I think certain macros to allow perfect weapon timing would probably be banned if it were possible, but there's absolutely no way to stop people using them, so it's fairly pointless getting annoyed about it.

You're not out of line, just incorrect.

They really convey no real advantage, as has been explained in countless threads, by countless people, countless times.

I'm not defending them because I use them, I don't, but I really couldn't care less if people do, because it just means they're too lazy to time things properly themselves, and in some cases, like gauss, are actually gimping themselves.

Just do a forum search on macros, read the threads, you'll have your answers. Zero need for a new thread on this.

If you really want to, you can set a bunch of weapons in a chain fire weapon group and mash the fire button repeatedly to get similar results, though I suppose it would be a little hard to get rapid fire results exactly like that without a macro.

In the case of 4x UAC5 it doesn't really confer all that many advantages anyways, you're going to have at least 1 or 2 cannons jamming up when firing that fast and that's obviously pretty bad.

Macros never circumvent anything like gauss charge up or weapon cooldown rates or whatever else, so they're fine and people that get buttmad about it just want to find an excuse because they lost.

Even though, i am completely against using any sort of macro that gives the person an unfair advantage, some of these macros (like toggle TAG) seem like something that should be in the game without the need of a macro.

The game allows it. That is all that matters to me on the macro front.

Macros for gaming have existed since the 90s. This is the only game I have played where people have cried foul about it.

Well, this player base seems to whine about anything and everything. So I am not surprised.

I feel they aren't cheating, i mean the same can be achieved via rapid clicking, its just a tool to help one, as repetitive motion can cause carpel tunnel and arthritis.

Oh and here's a friend of mine who used to play, he used macros for this build shown in this video:

Those Lbxes sound awesome.

What in that video shows anything relating to your topic? I saw nothing that can't be done just as easily without a macro and no proof of macroing to begin with.

The UACs crab? Thats just how UACs are, assign the same weapons to 2 groups/buttons and hit both rapidly.

Some of us actually played the clarinet and know how to use fingers to get that desired firerate without using macros.

PGI found macros OP enough to nerf AC2 with Ghost heat.

And some honed their timing skills using this:

I have a different explanation:

View PostMystere, on 16 August 2015 - 12:54 AM, said:

I'm going to take the view that people are just joining in on the whine. And knowing this player base, many of those would be of very dubious motive. Because anyone who has been around since the very beginning knows that incessant and massive whining to the high heavens does produce results, whether warranted or not. Whine often, long, and loudly enough and PGI will eventually become weak-kneed.

Its been a while since we've had one of these threads.
I personally don't like macro's but there are certain situations when they are fine, like if you have a hand injury or minor stuff that should be in the game like tag toggle.
