The weird part is that most of the people on the MWO forum are adults.

Too bad more of them of them don't act like it.

XVM in World of Tanks has helped to create a very toxic environment, which is basically a program that displays number of games played, winning percentage and a scoring system 'score' of sorts in the form of a Win8 rating. The only thing I can say it has brought to the game is a rash of insults BEFORE the games even start. The elitism is extraordinary in some matches... before, during and after. I like to think this community is different in a good way, but I'm probably kidding myself.

I'd like to know my score, but I think we should strive to keep it as an opt in/out option for the players.

russians call it 'deermeter' :3 'deer' means something like 'scrub', 'lamer' or 'fool'

A lot of good points made here. I'd like to suggest another way of showing transparency of matchmaking while still hiding individual player tiers: In the match lobby, display the count of players per tier instead of showing the tier of each player:

Red team
Tier 1: 1 player
Tier 2: 7 players
Tier 3: 4 players

Blue team
Tier 2: 10 players
Tier 3: 2 players

As to whether individual player tiers should be public, I think the opt-in system is the safest. If you want to show your tier then do, if not then don't.

And it's those 'thin skinned' individuals that should never visit ANY internet forum EVER!

If you have thin skin, and aren't capable of giving at least as good as you get, STAY AWAY, stay VERY FAR away...

It won't stop at the forums though. It will extend to in game chat and VOIP. It happens now, this will make it worse. The new player experience is bad enough in this game without giving certain people more ammo.

And it wont be limited to T1 having a go a T3, it will start with T4 having a go at T5. Some of the more inexperienced players in the game are the one who will scream the loudest when a team fails to live up their expectations, expectations which I might add are usually beyond their own skill level. That won't stop them from being bullies though.

'noob, too afraid to show your elo'

i saw it in dota2 when your winrate (not even elo) could be optionally made visible and dotabuff collected that data

the last thing we need are statpadders. There are enough already that hold the trigger to get the killing blow on the target for that 0.0000001 improvement on KDR...

BUT since stats will take in account various elements (spot, tag, most damage dealt, flanking, capping, etc...) will certainly try to push players to work less around kills and more for the final result.

bad side, there will be tedious statpadding elitists judging players more than ever.

This would be a good compromise, IMO.

Well if you don't show your elo chances are you don't care if people call you noob. If you care about your elo, then you show it, and take it like a man if people mock you.

Not a bad solution at all.

I mean crimany we could just all start posting screen shots of our stats page and wave our epeen at each other like rabid monkeys.

I know this much... There are going to be some really ticked off epeen measuring tryhards when they find out they are only tier 4. Even moreso if it was made public. Knowledge of one's skill tier could also force some others to butch up... Welllll maybe for others might see their whining and call out their high status. I so hope in a way i turn out to be tier 4.

I also hope that the next stage for this is to use Battle Value as a modifier to your position in matchmaker. Good players with joke builds and vice versa should be taken into account.

It would also be useful to see opposition data in CW for who is defsnding a world for organized units and try to match them accordingly since seal clubbing is so much fun for the majority of players. :::sarcasm:::

But we shall see what comes next.

If we avoided everything that could result in one individual being mean to another, we'd still be hanging in the trees, and probably not even that evolved.

Just think of the internet as Mother Nature's way of allowing us to continue to fling dung at each other, just as per our natural instincts.

Only this way, we won't always need to bathe afterwards...

And before you mock someone as being some tier 5 windowlicking noob... Remember it could be some tier 1 players alt account and they're about to school you good.

Also Staggercheck, gamers be gamers yo?

We live in a world where athletes complain about their Madden stats to the company. Gamers will too even moreso.

Because we can all win a participant trophy

Will Group score be separated from Solo score? That's the crossroads for me on this... If not separated, scores will not be comparable and in that case making them public serves no purpose... it will just show off scores that correlate badly with actual skill....
