I'm sorry, but last time I checked any combat manual on the planet it always, always, said to go behind your team mate if they are already firing their weapon. The short version is "incoming fire always has the right of way". The long version if "I really don't know what is that urgent that you have to run in-front of my clear shooting lane, but if you must insist on rushing through my fire to do whatever it is you are doing then I hope your body isn't made of anything delicate."

If I'm firing my incredibly obvious, totally visible, and distinctly wubby lasers and you choose to run through them then I am 100% confident as to who's favour the insurance claim would turn out.

I totally agree. However, there will always be some clueless teammate who'll do it. What I'm saying is don't compound his mistake by NOT instantly aiming your lasers away. It's bad for your team and now it's bad for your Match Score as well.

Once the laser is firing I can't make it stop, right?

You have to quickly aim it away to minimize the team damage. Aiming up usually works. If you're lucky you'll do 1 or 2 points of team damage and the rest ends up in the sky. :)

I stopped caring. I used to. But now I see it happen so often I don't care anymore.

I don't /ever/ try and shoot a teammate, but when they constantly try to crowd my firing line like the guy way back in college that tried to steal the ball coming to me /every single time/ in volleyball, well, that's their problem if the lasers hit them.

The most I've ever done so far is 20, and thats because a shadow cat jump jetting over me, and landed infront as I fired off my SRM alpha and UAC5..

Here's a suggestion that I made, unedited since Feb, I think this outlines a realistic range for team damage, and I sitll stand by 30 team damage as a maximum anyone should ever happen to unintentionally do in one game. It has comprehensive pentalties, plenty of integration in-game to support the notion that friendly fire is not good.

Please check this out:
http://mwomercs.com/...damage-penalty/

- If people don't want to deal team damage, it's very easy to keep it below 30.
- If people just don't care about their arm placement, drag lasers over friendlies, shoot through team mates, then it's easy to go above and beyond that be get penalized for it because you are being a possible detriment to your team.

I'd say sub 50-100 team damage is acceptable. It really depends on your loadout and the combined awareness of you and your team. If you've got an AC20 or Gauss Rifle your team damage potential will be higher. Lasers should have lower team damage levels since you can drag the beam away if someone runs in front of you.

Frankly I think friendly fire should be penalized at an exponential rate to stop all the sad attempts at poaching a kill or whatnot that results in a friendly losing most if not all of their back armor or even a limb because of that greed. Friendly components should cost even more.

Im not concerned about TK'ers at all im concerned about pigheaded idiots.

You know, those idiots with ER lasers who will not even twitch them off of a friendly when they accidentally step in front of them

When I walk in front of someone I see firing, or in the process of firing, I deserve any friendly fire he inflicts upon me, and the reverse is true, if you walk in front of me and you've seen me shooting at another 'mech, F you, as Drago says in Rocky V, "If he dies, he dies"...

I try to take pains to attempt to NEVER do the following:

1. Immediately alpha upon dropping into a match.
2. NEVER walking directly behind another 'mech that MIGHT POSSIBLY be walking into enemy fire.
3. NEVER intentionally get between another 'mech and his target.

Those are just my top 3, but if EVERYONE kept this in mind and made attempts at the same, I figure quality of play would jump by at least 20%...

Sub 50 damage is the threshold IMO. Any more starts to become pretty bad.

Still, bad driving does get you taking damage, so if you take damage from teammates, it's most likely your fault for crossing into their firing lane.

Not always. I think if you bump into a mech, that's what that 1 means.

They aren't accidentally stepping in front of you they are intentionally cutting you off to line up their own 'kill shot' They should be walking BEHIND your line of fire not in front of it.

Would a poll for showing everyone's team damage be a good idea?
