1. When you drop you can be facing in either direction because you don't know where the enemies are in a real drop, like in Community Warfare. The dropship carries 4 mechs, 2 on each side facing opposite directions so that no more than 2 can get shot in the back as soon as they drop.

2. I agree with everything else you said.

3. I also would like to concur with the idea to let us use Private Lobbies when there are at least 2 cadets in the group and the only other person not in a cadet is the trainer who must have passed his cadet training (or maybe have mastered a mech to qualify as trainer) without using premium time.

First of all I dont "whine".

Then I am not too lazy to learn new things, even the opposite: I think thats part of the challenge in a PvP game that you learn faster and better than your opponent. I appreciate that there are many new things.
But I do not appreciate that this game makes it unnecessarily hard for new players. Why the crappy UI? Why no real tutorial? (or if you want to keep the one now: Why not make it fun and not "idiotic"?)
Why so few information ingame? For example the things I got because of the event: I thought I get them for unlocking some archievements or so.

It should NOT be too hard to hire some of the known youtubers, maybe give them small payment (like lifetime premium or mechs) and let them produce videos for each important chapter. Then implement a video section in the game and you are almost done.
Now I had to search for them on my own, filter those which are bad or outdated (hard to say for a noob if something is outdated....) and hope that I chose the right video to watch.

Dont get me wrong: No need to explain how to start the game or how to switch on my computer. But the basic things should be taught + a working UI are needed to attract players and to make cash the long run.

Unfortunately shortly after going live Russ decided it was in his best and most short sighted interest to all but ignore the player base that was very upset with the company for not busting their balls - edit in-, or at least putting forth an actual effort -edit out- to deliver something reminiscent of the game they sold us on, rather than just a core game.

The game in many ways still hasn't recovered from that decision early on.

Hehe, You mean their target demographic are the few hundred people happy with the game that also regularly pay money? That explains their pricing policy for sure :P.

what are tiers? I google MWO Tier but I found some lists only going till tier 3. then I got a description up to tier 10. very confusing ^^
In my mech bays it shows a big 4 on the wall, you mean that?

besides that: if you mean that I got "bigger" mechs than the normal noob then I already said that I rejoined after 2 years break

Generally, all issues you raised here are well known and - at least according to PGI - are being or will be addressed.

UI - this is the new UI, introduced last month. It's working, but fully finished ATM, they didn't scale it for all possible resolutions yet. But no worries, they improve it with every patch. It was worse on Monday B)

Lack of proper, comprehensive tutorial - community raised that issue a thousand of times. Unfortunately in the past the game development was veeeery stagnant, almost no development at all. Some time ago, they PGI 'divorced' its publisher (greedy ******** I heard) and started to develop the game the way it should be developed. They have a nice pace now, there's just so much old issues to resolve...

The other thing related to the New Player Experience issue that you should know, is that other mechanised team pvp games like WOT or WT are designed around 'escalating grind' philosophy. They are very noob friendly, easy to 'level up' and easy to play at the beginning, but with time get more and more and more grindy, to the point that getting a new machine takes months, and/or using 'top' machines is so expensive you have to play lower tiers to have money, because you loose money on higher tiers.... MWO is completely different in that aspect, it strives to make all mechs equal. The grind to get your first mech is not shorter than the grind to get your 150th mech. It's more about collecting machines and seeking ones you like than gaining 'levels'. Also, once you master a good chassis that fits your playstyle, maybe slap in a few modules on it, you're equal to all other players out there. Nobody can 'outtech you'.
The downside of this is the problem of new players being at veery noticeable disadvantage untill they at least basic their first mech. PGI promised to deal with that issue soon™.

Your load times (not wait times, load times) seem to be very slow to me. My PC is rather outdated and it loads much faster than yours. And I couldn't even run the resolution you use, I would have slideshow framerate :rolleyes: . Some compatibility issues?

Waiting for the match - What servers do you play on? If you play only on one of them, the wait times will be slow. MWO is designed in such a way, that you can play quite comfortably if under 200 ping on a given server. Heck, I got 300 on Oceanic and I *can* play there (even broke my kill/damage record on that server!), but with ping like that, it's not really comfortable (e.g. the delay makes peeking out of corners a damn chore, it's better to jump from cover to cover than peek). Europeans and people from North America usually use both NA and EU servers.

EDIT: bad arcade kitty means player tiers. A new way to categorise people by their combat effectiveness to create equal matches. V means veeery bad, I means veery good. New people start at IV.

But that's a side note, you generally don't need to take bad arcade kitty seriously. Don't bother.

Sorry but it sounds like whining or just complaining. Why the game is not better than it can be? Well, do you really think it's an appropriate question? BECAUSE REASONS.

The game is not hard, there are really few things to know and it's a small game company, it is HARD for them to create ANYTHING tbh, that's just how it is. But starting with that kind of attitude you won't get much fun playing this game. Instead you could just create a thread and ask questions that you want. That's the difference.

While this game has severe deficiencies regarding the new player experience and the UI might not look good in certain resolutions, getting info on stuff is the most simple thing in the world. Just hover over buttons or click once on equipment to see very detailed stats and a description! Are people too blind or just too impatient?
Do you really need this kind of annoying **** every time you do something?

I am a quite new player to this game aswell...been playing for a bit more than a week now and I don't have any problems with it.

Of course it takes a few days to learn that stuff, but there are so many youtube videos out there, which explain yo literally everything.
It took me a few days to wrap my head around it, and there are so many players who are willing to help You aswell.

So far I like this game very much... and lots of the stuff in game ...I found out just by trying out things on my own and reading some posts and watching tutorial vids.

It might be, that I have lots of gaming experience with all sorts of games, which makes me understand this game pretty quick...But I think for someone who hardly plays any games, any game might be a challenge to start with

You are right -- your opinion is what many of us have been saying for a VERY long time. With some things, like the dropship, PGI was aiming for immersion but it just ends up being tedious but you eventually learn to ignore it. The UI needs some more work to make it more intuitive for new players -- PGI should bring in some people off the street and see if they can figure out the UI -- that would be a start.

The worst part of the new player experience, imho, is that you don't earn enough money to get, and outfit, more than one light mech by the time you are done your initial rookie matches. Really, when you are done your rookie matches you should get 4 stock classic (meaning 1st gen IS mechs or 1st gen clan) mechs and 4 mechbays as a reward (1 light, 1 medium, 1 heavy and 1 assault) and then use your rookie cbills to customize them.

The game needs to be more new-player friendly -- specially before we hit steam. But take heart -- PGI is trying to make things better.

Tips for you:
  • Try lowering the resolution on your 27" screen, I run mine at 1920x1080 instead of 2560x1440 for just this reason, the UI is too small to read without squinting at the higher res
  • To sell equipment its in a weird place. On the Home tab, click on Inventory, that is where you sell stuff like equipment and mechs.
  • I also hate having to wait between every match to search for a new match. I would absolutely love some kind of lobby where once matched with players you can choose to stick around and play with them again and not have to wait again


Lowering your resolution because your monitor is too good is really bad design lmao
