Make it so you can only use game chat, or post on the forums if you show your Tier.

That would rid the world of so many Keyboard Commandos!

While I 'think' I know what tier I am in....I don't KNOW. That said I am not afraid of my information being made public. I am what I am....

...if I am tier 5 (just installed the game): Will there be people who give me sh!t....NO DOUBT, but I know there will be people who will also be genuinely HAPPY to help me get better. It will be EASY for me to tell the difference between the two types.

...if I am tier 1 (can hang with the best of the best): Will there be people who give me sh!t....NO QUESTION, but I know there will be people who will be genuinely HAPPY to have me help them get better. It will be EASY for me to tell the difference between the two types.

My biggest fear....that I find out I am already a Tier 1 player, and that knowing it will do nothing to help me find people who are willing and able to help become a better pilot.

and then you disagree with me, i have a higher tier than you, and i ridicule your opinion basing on my tier and make you flee crying in shame because tier 4 scrub has no word here

It's pretty clear after 1600 votes what the option should be. (2) I know pretty much where I fall by the competition I face nightly. I know the loud mouths in my tier and I mute them the second I see their names in the match screen. Forcing tiers to be public would lead to more vitriolic behavior, which thank gosh I don't get much of where I'm at.

In the situation: I am a tier 4 scrub, you are a tier 1 tryhard and I make a post that you respond to with ridicule and bash me...it will be clear that you are not the guy that will help me get better and I will file your feedback / input where it belongs....the trash.

In the situation: I am a tier 4 scrub, you are a tier 1 tryhard and I make a post that you respond to with a sound and logical reason why I am mistaken....it will be clear that you are the guy that will help me get better and I will file your feedback / input where it belongs...as a sticky on my monitor so I never forget / always remember.

Went for the full disclosure as I want to know if the stomp received or given is well deserved or not. The biggie for me though would be to have the tier shown at the end game screen and not before as that opens up a whole lot problems when folks try to find the perfect match for their tier level.

Opt in would also be ok as I have nothing to hide but it would neat to have only players that opt in able to see the other ranks while those that opt out can play in its current state.

PGI, if I were you I wouldn't even let players know their tier at all. You're just asking for inquiries and complaints from players who think they deserve a higher rating and think your system must be broken, etc. Do you really want people to obsess over this? Because some people most certainly will. I'm already dreading the in-game rage from players against their teams when a loss is going to hurt their vaunted score. All that matters is getting good matches with similarly skilled players - bragging rights are going to me more of a headache than an asset, I suspect.

I've played many competitive games and most of them make this stuff public, but this wouldn't be a true ladder like I'd like to see. A ladder would give me incentive to try harder and improve in order to try to climb to the top. Honestly though, it doesn't matter much to me if tiers are public or not since tiers will be rather broad, with the exception of maybe tier 1.

Hey thats a good thought....

If we go with the OPT IN method, if you don't OPT IN you DON'T SEE ANYONES RANK, if you do you get to see ranks.

Would be a little more incentive to opt in IMO.

I whole heartedly support the MANDATORY displaying of your tier. There is no point to hiding it, because if you do, then everyone will relentlessly mock you as a Level 5 wuss. Better to show you <3 to the world and let the chips fall where they may.

Unless the majority of the player base is in Tier 1 or 2....then it wont really matter at all.

I'm curious as to weather or not the majority of us will settle in 2 or 3....so that 1, 4 and 5 are by far the smallest groups.

It depends on how PGI designed it. I think its sort of like a pyramid but it could also be a layered cake or top heavy making being in tier1...not a big deal.

usually it's vice versa, players betray other players to save themselves sometimes less than 20 seconds of time... instead of dcing because they think their desire to play this particular mech matters more than the game of those who are still alive

It is a shame Opt-in is going to win. Most games keep too much information private. This would be an incredibly useful tool, and it should be public. This could show what tiers are having what problems. It would show if something is actually broken or if it is a skill base that comes with time. It will show information that can be used for so much good. Like any good thing, some will use it for bad. This will happen regardless of the method, it just is what it is. It would be a shame to cripple positive growth because people are worried about the bad that will happen regardless.

I am certain I am far lower tier than I personally think. I think I am a tier 2. If I am wrong, this is a good thing. It is a drive to improve myself. I don't care what others think about me, I use this for personal growth.

In world of warcraft people care about numbers. I do too, my own. I use recount to make myself better. When running a raid, I use it to guide other players, bring them up... you are taking too much avoidable damage from this specific source and so on.

I don't brag, well... unless my buddy Bryan and I are really close and I beat him. But that is one person and I have known for years. He and I both leave the others out of it.

I don't see any value in showing it, other than e-peen measuring, if the match maker is going to assign your drop based on it anyway.

Something to think about for those that voted opt-in: If it's opt-in, nobody will display it unless it's tier 1 or 2...in which case players will realize that you're probably mid-low tier.

So, you not really "hiding" your tier level anyway. B)

I don't think so. Some People are just humble Beings who got no Desire to pose around with their Tier ;)

How good Players are is viewable for everyone at the End of a Match anyway ^^
