Thanks PGI... We might let you know how many people are currently dropping on a planet in CW, but don't even think of asking how many people are playing the game at any given time... We might let you have some arbitrary ranking system that determines who you get to play with in solo play, but don't bother trying to keep track of your movement along that ranking system because PGI hasn't figured out how to make it work yet and we might object to some of their variables or calculations. Nothing about this games numbers have ever added up to anything remotely approaching reasonable and if you disagree please take a look at the non-sale price of everything they've ever sold us ever... Thanks for giving us another meaningless poll. It realy makes it look like you care about our opinions, so long as we don't ask too many questions and only get to chime in on unimportant decisions like this.

We do not have enough population to split fights by tiers.

How would anyone know... We drop over and over again in the wee hours and see the same 12-24 people every other drop, but there could be millions of players on right now... or not...

Option 3, of course! I dont want trash talk during the game, because of someone higher / lower than the others or some generel e-peen comparisions. I just want to know where I stand, so make it visible for me.

If you must, then create rankings that you can view outside of a match, but please dont make anything visible in an actual match and/or the score overview.

How about this? If you are tier 5 (noob) it's mandatory... once you have advanced to tier 4 or better.. you can choose to hide it if wanted. This one, the tier5 can speak like they know the show. :)

In THEORY there is nothing wrong with letting people see your tier.

In PRACTICE you will get poeple behaving like arsehats on the forums.

For me I think it is all or nothing. Games like Starcraft 2 encourage you to work up the rankings, from Bronze to Silver to Gold etc.

If you implement a system like this then great. Rankings fulfill a PURPOSE that adds to the player expeience. In this case transparancy is a good thing.

If you intend to publish it for no other reason than to boost certain peoples e-peens then what is the point?

Plus you have top be very careful that GOOD TEAM PLAY IMPROVES PSA.

If it gets out that selfish behaviour such as kill stealing and hiding behind other people will increase your rank then it will ACTIVELY MAKE GAMES WORSE as players engage in poor behaviour to boost their ranking.

What is the benefit of being Tier 1?

Nothing except difficult games against some of the most obnoxious players here.

What's the benefit of Tier 3? Nothing right now because you can get derped to death by Tier 5 or steamrolled by Tier 1. Just not in the same match. You are the majority and in PSR hell.

What's the benefit of Tier 4 or 5? Never seeing Tier 1. But you still do see opponents from Tier 2 which you really shouldn't.

Lock the tiers.

people just need to stop being so precious... I say let it all be shown.

One of the best things about some online games was being able to see your own stats, and be able to compare with others.
In particular BFstats, with breakdowns of pretty much everything.

It allows you to be able to see how you stand, where you can improve on. Just being able to see your own stats is nice, but meaningless without having something to compare with.
... and only being able to compare with opt-in's is not an accurate comparison of how you perform.

Stats aren't everything, and we all know K:D doesn't mean anything in MWO, but they add to a game. It's not real life for goodness sake.

Another thing is you guys do realise that just like Elo it is probably on a bell curve so everyone will be in the middle apart from some new players and "elites". I think if they publish PSA we will probably just get a bunch of people in the middle.

I say only publish if you publish ALL.

Peoples exact numbers, how many people in each tier, how you are progressing to the next tier etc. etc.

Pull the sheet of PSA or show nothing at all.

If they opt to display player tier publicly we may as well also display that players computer specs because anyone who doesn't think the hardware plays a significant role in performance...

I am thinking no to public display I can think of very little good that comes from this.

I see marginalized players in lower tiers. "why should we listen to the opinions of a the tier 5 underhive?"

I see players being denied entry to player run units based solely on their tier level and not their potential tier if they were in a unit. (anyone who has played organized high comp groups knows Pugging and group play are night and day)

I see blame assignment for poor group performance "it was those low tier scrubs bringing me down!"

I see the high tiers validating their opinons based on being high tier. "I'm a tier one so I know what Is best for everyone." (actually tier one only means you have a solid grasp on how to exploit the flavor of the month to maximum effect because you are also good at video games and/or have a high end system to boot)

I voted opt in,

I suspect I am tier 3, but 4 is also possible, ether way I do not care and am not bothered about other people knowing, however I do want to know.

I hope there will be something put in the code of conduct about insults based on tier, or decision to show/hide it to make sure the high tiers are not lording it over the lower tiers.

Locking the tiers seems like a good idea on the surface but, what about wait times?

tier 4 and 5 will be a large pool and as the tiers get higher the amount of players in those skill levels becomes fewer and fewer.

Should a tier one player have three or four times the match search times? Is it reasonable to have any player waiting for 10+ minutes to launch a game?

I'd say pay to show!

If you wanna see mine it will cost ya, like 500mc for a peek (put a 10% fee on it for PGI coffers )

Judging by this thread people are curious enough to make it a good revenue for PGI

:P

BTW this thread suggests a lot of e-peen and butthurt, convincing me that PSR should be hidden like ELO was... (i started out as opt-in )

I would like a tool to evaluate my own performance though, having options on compiling reports on results by week or last x games etc.

declaring MWOwins law: The first one to invoke tier or PSR loses the discussion!

I think there should be a 4th option: You can know you PSR, but you can't show it (*).

The idea behind it is to diminish bragging but to allow people to see when they go up or down.

You can of course tell it, but who knows if you are lying :P

That's already what option #3 says lol

Hate to rant but this new system is killing me. Almost all my matches are losing now. I am getting paired up with people who can't pilot the mech correctly, let alone shoot straight.

I can't level up any mechs cause I keep losing now, no x2 XP bonus for me.

I used to win so many matches for my hard work and now I am do 700 damage, 4 kills and still lose the match :|
(Someone else did 800 damage and 1000+), still lost.

Are there that many inexperienced players out there? Maybe if we can see the stats we can be more understanding.

just to echo others here. This is an odd poll. I really just want to see my own tier. As for seeing other people's tiers, I could take it or leave it.

the question is, do we really want to ignore a full 1/4 of the community who doesn't want the psr to be shown? Like, "suck it up" 1/2 wants it?

if you make decisions, there will be always someone against something, so, yes "suck it" and it will win opt-in, so they don't have to show their own PSR and can ignore the PSR of others, i don't see a problem actually
