I don't know where you've been, but group queue has been too dead to properly match since "group queue" was an actual term. The solo/12 split killed most units, who would have populated the group queue, so there was never a population to occupy it from the get-go.
Maybe a few more people showed up to try out the new MM, but that was always going to be a momentary surge.
Been out of game pretty much constantly since pretty much then. I only came back fairly recently
