It looks like another grab-bag event.

I love those.

It's grabbag ONLY if you bought both packs in full ($160).

True, but it's sad that you need $160 to get the majority of the rewards (at least $20 to even have a shot at doubling the C-bill reward pool with a meh Resistance variant).
And some people would say it's sad that financially supporting the game doesn't have more rewards.

It's things like these that are supposed be part of our consideration of the 'value' of what they are offering us in these packages, and helping us decide whether or not it's worth it to us to invest.

Ok, that is a little disappointing.

If PGI had put the Cyclops in the game as a reward mech if we bought both resistance 1 and 2, I would have been all over it, even though I bought some of the resistance 1 mechs for c-bills already. The clans got the Mad Dog after all.

A camo scheme, cockpit item, title and badge aren't enough to make me shell out another $80 now when I won't get the early buyer variants and other rewards. I think the sales have been less than expected lately and they are doing this event to try and nudge players who were on the fence about buying both packs into getting them. They are doing this to call attention to the deal, and I noticed it's retroactive, so you can buy it near the end of the event and still get the goodies for the matches you've already played.

But you have to remember to keep the following in mind when you're figuring out if a new pack is 'worth it' to you:

PGI has historically based EXTRA rewards on what players have purchased in the past. Free 'mechs, extra cbills/XP, etc. have all been awarded to those who have purchased a various packages.

I think this is a good thing. It keeps a lot of us founders going, and should add incentive for new players to make the investment. The price per 'mech on the packs when they are announced is pretty darn good considering all the extras you get (including the cockpit items, camo's, colors, MC, premium time, et al).

Yeah, AFTER the fact, when all the early buy in stuff has expired, it's a bummer, BUT c'mon man that's why you have to consider the whole deal, PLUS, the historic add-ons that always come much later...

I think personally, I'm starting to have greater buyer's remorse than before for something that has yet to be released.

It reeks of desperation as it's not going to convince that many people to plop down the cost that is greater than the Wave 3 pack that actually had "tiered" bonuses for the level of pack you bought. This is an all or nothing deal for the grabbag, and only a partial boost if you can tolerate using some of the Resistance C-bill variants (the lower tier ones are actually really bad).

The math says it's a bad deal, and I'm leaning in agreement with the math here.

So, if you get 150 or more points in a match you "qualify" to get 250,000 extra. Does this mean that there is a lottery of this winning among those with at least 150 points?
I'm wondering because I just played a game where I got 200+ points, but I did not get any extra money.

It won't be displayed on the end of round screen but on the Blood Money site. It takes about 15 minutes for the server to confirm that you scored over 150 points and adds the C-bill to your treasury.

Ok, this thread is a little old, but I was reminded of it today. What I got from my grab bag pulls...

6 Days premium (valued at 6/7ths of price of a 7-day premium pack is a bit over 1071MC)
210 MC
11 consumables (MC value 165)
2500 GXP (no MC value)
1.2 million c-bills (half the price of the 2.4 million c-bill package, so 1/2 of 1600 is 800 MC)
Plus 3 hanging items (total value 1500 MC)

Total MC value of these bonus prizes: 3746 (and some odd decimals due to value computation of premium time)

Based on the price of MC granted by a 6500MC package, that equates to around... $17.26. It took me 82 games to earn that (some of which did not qualify for prize pulls). That's about $0.21 per game. If you figure 5 games per hour the prize payout barely equals $1/hour. Sweatshops pay better.

Someone complained about needing a $160 purchase to get prizes? If you want prizes that badly here's a better idea: reward yourself by buying some MC and just picking up the stuff you want. (Also, don't tell your boss that you're jealous of people that get $1/hour, he'll cut your pay.)

LOL, if you're going to compare playing this game to working in a sweatshop you're doing it wrong.

I know you were just putting up a comparison but still I found the thought funny.

But seriously if you want to be 'paid to play' get someone willing to sponsor you. Then we'd need to be able to decal our 'mechs... Just think, we'd have battles that looked something like:

Which if you think about it would make all the Nascar'ing we do on certain maps make more sense!

This was mostly in response to Xetelian's complaints of how much one had to spend to get prizes. I'm pointing out that if you want this stuff, skip the package purchases and just buy the stuff you want. The comparison to earnings per hour is outright ludicrous, and is meant to illustrate the point.

Oh no I got what you were trying to say, it just made me think of being paid to play period.

Ah well... Guess my twisted mind, twisted too far again...

My livestream viewers paid for my (used) secondary monitor, subsidized my graphics card upgrade (paid for about 2/3rds of it), and have supported my weekly 7-Day Premium Time code giveaways. I'm not turning a profit off of livestreaming, but a trickle of money comes in, most of which I basically just pour back into the community.
