Im all for this.
Longer barrels for my Mad Dogs, glowing cockpit glass for my Gargoyles (like on the art that was posted recently that I couldn't be bothered getting a link to ATM), seeing Centurions with spikes on their shield arms, etc.

The only thing I don't want to see is the custom geometry for Founders Mechs and their ilk becoming available for non founders. Anything else is golden as far as I'm concerned, on the condition it doesn't take a huge step away from the current artstyle (which I love).

Yes. Yes. A thousand times YES. I would pay $$ to customize the look of my mechs. Just like cockpit items, camos, and paints, they could easily be broken up into:

1. common cbill items
2. MC-only items
3. bundled early adopter specials
4. weekly challenges
5. tournament prizes

I would spend more on this than I do on mech packs.

When I buy a mech pack I want performance for my money - which in turn can drive dissatisfaction because universally most of the mechs in a bundle are bad ones we likely wouldn't have bought otherwise. So sooner or later we end up feeling like they are a poor value and adoption of packages declines.

Cosmetics work because they are a treat and I can binge on them when I'm in a position to do so. Limited time offers work but again; limited time special offers burn consumers out over time. The cosmetics model used by various other f2p games works because there is always something to spend money on to improve my enjoyment of things I already have.

Great idea. Will put this in the OP. Although I'm not thrilled about option number 3. Putting even more cosmetic things behind those insane paywalls isn't good for this game. I can accept relatively high prices for camo and paint, but I don't want to encourage PGI to go further down the path of "loyalty" rewards.

I'd love to set up the Crab's hands to match, each with a pincer. The pincer without the armor over it looks silly to me (at least if they do that from the preview image). I could also see a normal hand being able to be placed there (which would then match some of the classic artwork, even if I hated that hand look on the mech).

I have thirteen Atlases, and would be down for buying a bunch of different heads for them.

only concern would be impact to gameplay with altered geometry (better shield arms for example).

Their plan should be to have each ‘Mech with three select-able geometry options per section of ‘Mech (Head, CT, LT, RT etc.). To save time and push this out sooner rather than later, all options would be fairly similar per chassis. For example, all ‘Mechs would have the Armor Plates option for each section. This would all be a part of the initial release, with more options to follow as the months go on. Later I am sure we could see unique items per ‘Mech such as different Atlas heads, Centurion arms, and nose cones for the Catapult. I could also see the much desired bubble cockpit for the Battlemaster included as long as it did not affect the internal cockpit view as that would cause a lot more work to be done.

Oh and none of this geometry should affect hit boxes, it should all be just for looks.

I was also thinking that adding a single color channel to all (or eventually individual) geometry would be a nice touch; you would be able to use any of your own colors, or stick with the default gun metal grey.

The camo spec tab could look something like this.

Ive been saying this for eons. I would love to interchange the Atlas's skull. I personally like the third under the first. The boxy look more just cause it seems more realistic and Russian tank like but hey ill do them all if it was an option :P.

How about the ability to REMOVE custom geometry from mechs so that I can finally skin and paint my founders/pheonix mechs?! Or the ability to REMOVE custom skins from my loyalty mechs so I can skin/pain those?!

If they want to add more visual customization they should address those issues first.

For the record, you a little out of date here.

They are actually making it so you can repaint (change the cammo pattern) on your "special" mechs (example: Loyalty or Invasion mechs). Been doing that for 2 patches now I think? Was an announcement about it on the forums somewhere...

I'd absolutely love to see some of this in game! Ideally only for MC (and hopefully not terribly expensive at that) and like Wintersdark said it would be awesome if each mech had a handful of 'slots' or whatever so you could equip a custom head and a set of custom shoulders or what have you. My only comment would be go on the basis of modeller creativity or nostalgia factor, don't just churn out five different heads for the Atlas because you "need" to have five heads to sell. It's way cooler when alternate pieces of geometry are someone's cool idea, not "okay now let's do a pirate one and then do the ninja one and then..."

I think the Borderlands games do a pretty good job of illustrating what I mean vs something like Aliens: Colonial Marines, where all the skins feel like they only got made because they needed another skin.

You don't need to worry, these are purely cosmetic. No gameplay advantage should be gleaned from this. Hitboxes won't be affected.

I feel like the art team has enough catching up to do with fixing mech models, horrible weapon geometry standardization and old maps without getting distracted by another F2P hook.

I REALLY, REALLY want to see the catapult fixed in terms of cosmetics (the missile boxes), and would absolutely pay money to get the old PPC barrels back on the K2.

I also would really love to see the Mad Dog get its stance crouched down a bit, and would love to see extended weapon barrels on it, a la sarna: http://www.sarna.net...ile:Mad_Dog.jpg

Custom cockpit glass would be really welcome, as would many of the other cosmetic changes listed above. If they implement some of the poll choices listed I certainly would spend money on my favorite mechs to "pretty them up."
