That is exactly what I was thinking it was in my last post! The bottom half of the odd lifter from Crimson Strait.

So basically it's just a modular base for utility/construction vehicles.

Also, Tennex: Wheels can turn in two directions. So if all the wheels on one side turn in the opposite direction of the wheels on the others side, it turns. You can also accomplish this while moving, by simply lowering (but not stopping) the rotation of one side.

It looks like a BattleMech rollerskate. Look around for its mate and you can have some extra fun!

It could turn just fine, with hydraulic driven wheels you'd just have to slow or put one set into reverse and the other set going forward and it would be able to turn in place.

As to its purpose, heavy transport. Could be for hauling out salvage from the battlefield.

In order to turn in this manner, it will have to slip wheels. Depending on the material, this would probably result in excess wear, given the supposed weight of this vehicle. If the material is very wear resistant, then it probably doesn't give good traction and so you may have handling problems in various conditions. So either you're replacing tires all the time (because you're driving this on surfaces that have a high coefficient of static friction with the wheel material), or you have very limited traction. Either way, I'd rather have a purpose built carriage that is able to turn and run regular tires so I don't have to travel at sub-sloth speeds to prevent skids.

Also, independent motors on each wheel is going to make this thing a lot more expensive and a total pain in the neck to repair.

TLDR; yes it can work, but not well. As far as an engineering solution, it's terribad.

By 3053 They may have self replicating organic super lube. No more grease zerks or lube orders.

In regards to the Atlas on the tower, Well if you shoot the instructor, they do tell you it's a simulation.

I can't be the ONLY one who tried to shoot the instructor, can I?

*edit- I forgot that my chrome doesn't let me actually use the quote button.

As a mechanic, I've found engineers tend not to give two ***** about how easy to repair a piece of equipment might be.

I was an engineer that also had to deal with budget. I cared a lot, hahaha. It always comes down to money, though, eh?

The object is unrelatable to anything in real life. No windows, no doors, no indication of what it actually does. Just headlights and a wheel that do not steer except straight

Its function is ambiguous, Its scale is ambiguous and it just looks straight up terrible. Theres no relatable queues, the fidelity is bad. They put it everywhere in the tutorial and it just muddies up an otherwise quality product

actually have seen similar vehicles used to as "Tugs" for commercial aircraft. Perhaps it's for dropships?

Better Questions? Who gives a crap, honestly?

That's from The Thunderbirds first episode.

Supersonic airliners who have lost their landing gear land their nose and both wings simultaneously on three of these.

It skid steers - it doesn't need any x-axis movement in any wheels.

well it's not a vehicle (as we already found out, it's a bottom part of a some kind of lifter) because it lacks a cab for the driver

that actually doesn't make it not a vehicle. It's just a universal base for heavy commercial vehicles, but it's a vehicle still.

Have you ever seen the things the use to move Lighthouses away from shores?

Look a lot like that....Like a roller for moving a building.

Ya know trailers dont steer right? :P
