I love the BT universe. But I don't love this game. I play very very occasionally, but of late, my matches have turned into 12-5 stomps (or worse). I readily admit I'm not a great player, but I'm also not awful. I am turning in games with sub 200 damage on average and I used to do better than that.

About to give it up. I understand queue times are going up after perusing the forums. I can guess why.

I think I was in a match with you on Bog just a bit ago, the 12-5 you're referring to.

We had a pretty bad team there, they all went to one of the worst locations on the map, and I could tell it was about to go downhill as soon as I saw that. Gameplay is really rough on the weekends, it gets better on week nights, give it a little time.

I gotta say that my own experience has been that the game is a lot of fun and the matches are much better than 12-5 stomps.

I really recommend that you join a Unit. You'll find your gaming experience improve substantially if you do. There are a lot of casual Units that don't place any requirements or stipulations on their members, so you may be interested in one of those. Having buddies to coordinate with makes a world of difference.

Pugging solo is disheartening. Once you have about a 3 Mech gap between teams, the Pugs quit trying and just try to end the match quickly so they can get to the next one. You don't see that in team battles generally though.

You can perform well even with a bad team. Just try to stay alive as long as you can and you'll usually get a decent payout even if you lose.

I haven't really had a string of losses that I can even remember though. Perhaps your PSR is too high but it should drop you down eventually then you can come club baby seals together with me.

Just quit i d say if you have no fun.

You might be the "perfect example" of a loyal bt fan. You play this game no matter what because its suposed to be BT. THats how pgi makes money

Most no bt fans just leave if no fun

Sorry to hear that man. Maybe switch up a little, read up on the meta and try a few different mechs - you might find your groove.

I've probably got 15,000 or so matches played since I started in early Closed Beta counting all the stat wipes. I frequently found myself asking the same question.

The game gets fun when you buy an Adder and put a UAC20 on it.

Gauss adder ftw, I never get close enough to use that UAC-20, and when I do its usually me vs 3 fresh Direwhales that nobody dared to attack and never bothered to mention.

The best part of the game is playing with friends.

As for damage etc when they change from Elo a lot of people go a bit of a boost in how the game ranks them. That means it has given you a bit better players to play against. At this point you will either master that challenge or drop back to a level you feel better at.

12-5 isn't really a stomp... the game can snowball so if you lose a couple early then it will get a little lopsided like that. Encourage your team to stay together at the beginning and that will make things better

The game gets better when you get better. If you aren't a very good player, by your own admission, you aren't being an asset to your team, and are part of the reason your teams get stomped.

I have the same problem and I play for hours and hours

200 damage is a good game these days

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you

I did start apologizing for my poor performance

Did you try taking your best Mechs into the game?

Don’t know if that will work or not

In CW I have been on the winning side once in 15 matches but it’s a little bit more fun than the solo area right now

Maybe give CW a try

Good luck

Play an Executioner and give 0 *****. I find that I put out my best games when I really don't even care if I win/lose anymore. Regularly hitting 800+ damage with my EXE-D doing this.

This is a really fair question, and the answers are all good. I'd add that this game is really hard. And it's a team game. It reminds me of EverQuest. If you didn't have a good group, it was NOT fun. It was work. And you did that work because of how much fun it was when you DID have a good group. The join a unit advice is excellent if it fits your schedule. It did when I was in EQ, and we rocked the world. But now I have a kid and the timing doesn't work out to be on TS with a Unit. So I PUG. And sometimes my groups suck. Sometimes they are awesome. When they suck, I just try not to die early, so I am playing and not waiting. And then I play again and try not to be too frustrated. Just like EQ sucked if you watched the experience bar too closely, so too does this game when you are playing for C-Bills or to XP your mech. Try to forget that and losing won't be so bad. I mean, the explosions are AMAZING no matter who is getting their arm lopped off!

I agree too that weeknights have more experienced players playing. And I find that CW games are more "serious" and far more likely to have people with mics. I notice that even 1 person with a mic can really help just by communicating some things that otherwise noobs would not know. Like staying together.

One more thing -- watching is actually pretty fun in this game. Change your attitude to: Dying is Movie Time! and let go of the actor, become the spectator.

In the OP's defense, if you saw this match...I'm not actually sure how we even got 5 kills, lol it felt like a major stomp. Our team did the usual derp into B-line, marched into a wall of enemy mechs, and evaporated. The 5 kills from our side were probably gotten on accident by flailing around, or the enemy got a cut in the bog and died later of gangrene.

What are you guys talking about, clearly the LB-20-X adder is where it's at! The sound! The weight of the recoil and impact, truly glory incarnate! :P

But in regards to the OP, if the game is not fun I do not suggest that you keep playing it. We are here after all to waste our spare time at what we consider a nice and entertaining experience, if that does not happen for you in MWO, then don't. Take a break.

For me, the fun in the game is (after actually having abandoned the BT universe for ... over a decade now):
- tinkering with and trying out builds
- testing my own patience, teamplay, combat awareness, etc
- on a minor level also improving my aim and mech control
- getting good kills (like currently: 6xERLL CT crack precision kills :D) and/or good dog fights (even if I lose in the end)

Even with all the missing depth and everything in this game, these points can be quite fun.
You just don't have to expect too much but be happy with what you've got.
(and trust me: having gigantic game depgth like Eve-Online is no fun either, it's more like a daily job)

who cares about having a bad team? those elo days are over; you just have to take care of numero uno now.
try and get over 300 even if you team fails and the next round they will have been downgraded to a lower tier than you (hopefully) of course they often get replaced with others who also fail, but it cannot be perfect
