I'm used to saying "gg" at the end of a match regardless of the outcome because I had learned it was a sign of respect for a well fought match regardless of how it went down. It is a form of handshake at the end of a match.

Many sports line up for handshakes to congratulate each other. They do it regardless of the score and not only if it was a real close game.

Anyway, that was back in the Quake 2 CTF days, now players seem more sensitive.

Now because players feelings can be hurt by "gg" (maybe because good is in there), I am now using the salute "<o" at the end of a match.

Maybe it is time to replace "gg" and replace it with a salute "<o" or "o7". Maybe players feelings won't be as hurt. Idk.

I will not, especially not for the sake of the overly sensitive.

I don't blame you.

I've personally decided to compromise because it still conveys the same message, just in a form with less undertones.

To each their own though. If I see you on the battlefield, and we lose to you, I'll take no offense to your "gg" and answer you back with a "<o".

GG Clothes

Saying "good game" is the handshake for most of us like others have said...even in sports as a kid in school. You lined up and slapped/shake hands and said good game to each other even if you got the snot beat out of you.

MWO is no different...its the people who play it that are different and seem too sensitive and too much coddling going on in the world today these people think everyone should lay down and let it be a close match even if it isnt.

If i am playing you and it was a good game i will tell you it was, i also am not against telling someone they landed a good shot. Its sportsmanship that is being misinterpreted everyone thinks we are being snide, rude and giggling as we wipe you. We are not, most of us are on the other side giving it our all to get a W.

Its a game and what matters at the end is that you are on the winning team...if you cant handle the comments you can turn Chat off.

"No one cheated, we all - "

Sorry but again, I can't hear you over all the "unsportsmanlike conduct is kewl" chatter.

I get that you are upset about your team's honor or whatever, but a team that embraces rudeness really has no place to complain when they are treated rudely. If you feel your team is being treated in an unsportsmanlike manner, there is advice upthread like "get over it" or "grow thicker skin" or somesuch nonsense.

Maybe next time you guys will treat other people with a bit more respect, since respect seems important to you now.

Being rude in game does not equal cheating in the game, simply because some one is what you consider rude a disrespectful does not mean they are cheating or even deserve un-substantiated cheating accusations.

If a game allows players to talk to the enemy team, it IS an invite to taunting at best and insults at worst. Most people seem to be rather immature when hiding behind a nickname in the online world. They think they can let out their bad side without consequences. As there is zero need in communicating with the enemy ingame, the only solution would be to shut down the enemy chat permanently. I unticked the box global chat for quite a while and it felt much better. sometimes you feel the urge to cry out loud about that stupid enemy player X or his actions. It's a different quality making jokes or cursing about him with your team than shouting out loud at him and starting a chat quarrel that instantly becomes childish and embarrasing.

Assuming everyone else is being insincere or condescending when complimenting you is a pretty good indicator of chronic insecurity and other underlying self esteem issues.

Hahahahaha, no. You implied that we cheated, then said we split because of egos. No one cheated, we all won as a team (the name we won as doesnt matter, its the group of people that do) and people were honest with their dissatisfaction towards the direction one person was causing the group to go in. That was it. Since that person had control of the name (and we didnt care about some dumb name for an mwo team), the competitive players left and formed EmP. Despite your hilarious narrative that it was egos clashing, or cheats being used, you are wrong and provided no support to your claims.

That makes you look extra silly. Did you know that?

Don't care either way Heim if you do or not. I was more interested in hearing why half of you left, and I don't have the stomach to frequent the reddit board since the maturity level there is sub toddler level to begin with. Ego clashing wouldn't shock me either, are you seriously going to claim there aren't and weren't quite a few egos in Lords?

You guys are p*ssies, logged in just to say that. I don't even play this game anymore, was just reading about the Mauler. Get over it, it's a video game. If two letters after a match, GG, make you this upset you have some serious personal/ego issues.

By the way, this isn't a sports match, this is fighting to the death in robots. So imagine losing in a fight, or being killed in a war. Do people taunt the ones who lose a fight or lose their lives? you bet your ass they do, just google it.
GG close, get rekt losers. Also, get a sense of humor while you're at it. I say GG close at the end of a match wether I win or lose, get over it.

What I mean to say is, Churchill's words applied to true war, not games, and as such are irrelevant when referring to even war games unless you're talking about RP

Let's see:

Everyone has an, "ego" - even you. When people know they are better than most at a video game, and have demonstrated it consistently, they are justified in assuming their knowledge and understanding of the game is essentially unrivaled (unless they demonstrate otherwise, which is losing to others) because in order to fully understand something you have to know how to be able to do it yourself. If most people don't know how to do it themselves as well as the best players do, the assertion they have higher valued opinions is totally understandable. If you had the opportunity to both ask a mathematician teacher and a foreign language interpreter about mathematics, who would you prefer to hear it from? (Assuming the mathematician and you speak the same language :P )

In this environment in which people are trying to, "stay on top of the game" to beat other teams, or are trying to figure out which game to beat other teams in, everyone is entitled to an opinion and can attempt to put an idea out there. It's talked about, agreed with a group consensus after discussion, and passed. Sometimes, people don't end up agreeing on very important decisions, and it's best to let people go in the direction they desired rather than hold each other back. Mutually understanding that is key. That is what happened between the, "House of Lords" MWO comp team and EmP. Some wanted to focus on Community Warfare, and others wanted to focus on, "Competitive" options. CW was eventually seen to be a huge waste of time, and the competitive community remains very small and without a, "if you build it, they will come" philosophy that they desperately need from PGI.

The assumption that we split due to egos or cheating comes with great naivety. Those who have spent time with us and know us better know that as well, so any claims otherwise are made purely by childish rumor mills.

It is absolute nonsense that you throw out very important lessons such as, "stick and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me". Are you made out of such terrible paper mache that you don't have the ability to know yourself better than those who throw meaningless insults at you? Go on and be offended, then. In the name of Steve Hughes...

1: "He called me an idiot!"

2: "Don't worry about it, he's a ****!"

3: "The comedian said mean things about the Lord, and I was offended. After I went to bed, I woke up and had leprosy!"

"How can you make a law about being offended? People can be offended for anything"

Maybe grow thicker skin isn't the thing that needed to be said to you, so use your brain next time?

"Are you made out of such terrible paper mache that - "

But I'm not offended. I'm simply entertained by the irony.

People with a rep for behaving like jerks in game getting upset when others behave like jerks back at them?

It's amusing. Like a thief complaining he's been robbed.

I think it's less being offended and more calling it for what it is. Being douchey for the sake of it. Which hey, if that's your thing go for it, but don't be shocked when you don't make many fans out of it.
