I like to play my silly mechs. They are satisfying.

That said, the absolute limit of what I can accomplish is objectively higher using a 'boring' meta build.

Yes yes, how you destroy mechs is fun, but there is something to be said for the sheer capability to destroy mechs, even if it's through a "boring" means. I don't care how you get there, getting a ton of kills is fun.

Pardon me but i never said mixed builds work better than boats. Stop putting words into other peoples mouths.
Boats have their place just like mixed builds do. Here is a simple example of how a mixed build has an advantage over boats but not superior.

Let's say i'm facing my nemesis the Firestarter with 8 SPL at close range in one of my weirdo builds.
At such a range i'm clearly at a disadvantage, but if i make use of the damage he has received from fighting others i might win or at least damage him badly.
All those short and middle range backup weapons makes gives me an opportunity to strike back repeatedly. If i can spare the heat i can even use my long range weapon.
Or i can sacrifice my long range weapon side to gain one last strike with my backup weapons.

But if i was in a KFX with 2x ER LL i would probably not do so well because firing those weapons demands a lot of heat.
I got no low heat alternatives and thus i'm unlikely to be able to fire my weapons more than 2 times before i'm so hot that i'm near shutdown.

It's that simple.

A mix build can adapt to any situation and do better at close ranges than a long range boat.
Needless to say a mix build does better than a short range boat build filled with weapons that become ineffective at 200 meters.
But mixed builds are not superior than a boat at their prefered range.
I think my use of a middle range weapon to boost my long range weapon makes me able to strike back at a boat with respectable firepower whenever that middle range weapon is within range.

I hope you understand that you don't just come along and put words into my mouth like that XX Sulla XX.

I think like this..... All mechs sizes are capable of doing damage but they have different ways of doing it.
I shoot while trying not to get shot in return. I tend survive longer because i don't trade hits with my enemies.
The longer i live the more damage i do. Of course things can go horribly wrong in all kinds of ways.

An Atlas however is not exactly the able to dodge very well no matter how good you are.
But i've seen a lot of assault mechs just stand there taking another shot at his victim after delivering a surprising first blow.
That second shot often comes at the price of a return shot from the victim.

Imagine if you went into cover after shooting your enemy once without him being able to retaliate.
You relocate and he stands there looking at the place you dissappeared waiting for you appear once more.
He is standing there mostly useless while you have moved onwards. That would be your win no matter how i look at it.

You would be doing 50% or thereabouts less damage per shooting location but might get far less damage in return. Thus you can fight longer just like me.
Not sure what you ae going on about not every comment is exactly responding to just you but to the over all thought of the thread.

My 'Mech is not a pre-Dreadnought or a Dreadnought.

It is a dinghy armed with a .45.

cant get why this community is so e sport and competitive minded. Some like to shoot rockets, they choose rockets if possible in every other games too. Others like the sound of the machine gun for example . Stop advicing ppl how to play /build. Many ppl play for fun as this is a game AND NOT REALITY -and some even for the giggles. Dont force your competitive mind on other ppl

The problem is that's selfish. There's minimum 11 other players, really 23 players, that are affected every time a player decides to not take the game seriously.

Taking the game seriously is supposed to be what's fun. If you want casual 'Mech comedy, there's anime, Cartoon Network, and twitch.tv.

If it's a competitive team game, you shouldn't be running around dragging down your teams, no matter what the excuse might be.

If you used that attitude with any real life team sport, even if it's just tag football with your buddies, you'd get booted off the team by popular demand almost immediately.

Just saw a king crab with 4 LRM5s, 4 medium lasers, one AC20, and one AC2. It immediately reminded me of this thread.

I am not sure if you noticed, but you are playing with other people. And people, in general, like to win. Ergo they do not want freeloaders on their team. Especially those who are willfully ignorant of the mechanics.

It is a game. Games should be fun. Its up to me if i take this game as a competitive one or

just as one to have fun. Your attitude /argument is 1 dimensional. You are actually beeing egoistic by forcing other player to play this game in a competitive way. Oh the game has now tiers right? let the Mm put me into the right tier then according to my playstyle. Your argument becomes now totally invalid

I dunno, is it fun to run around in ineffective builds and get killed quickly? It is a GAME, and we're here to have FUN, but FUN in GAMES usually requires good faith efforts to COMPETE. It's really not fun to play chess or trivial pursuit when the other players are just goofing around. I get it if you want to try an experimental build, but a lot of stuff is demonstrably bad and will get called out. If you insist on running two TAGs and flamers, get ready to get chewed out by angry teammates.

I like to use a mixed loadout when I can. Some mechs don't lend themselves to it every well though.

I like the PB.. use a LRM 15 until all the ammo is gone, then some LL and SRMS for up close to mop up

You may note that by the end of the Battleship era we were back to main, secondary, and tertiary batteries

The Iowa class (USS Missouri) Carried 9 16" guns, 10 5" guns and 20 20mm AA turrets
The Japanese Yamamoto class (considered the most power Battleships of the day) carried 40cm guns, 12 15cm guns (4x3 turrets) and 25 25mm AA batteries.

The Dreadnought carried anti torpedo boat weapons as mentioned in the OP post, as did every Battleship/Battlecruiser, at first many in side barbett's which then became turrets to increase their flexibility

Because now CW is low population because the hard core scared off the casuals, they want to impose more fail on the franchise I guess, because like Private matches are not hardcore enough and cost premium time
