It's a very tempting purchase.

For those not in the know, the Cataphract is actually a frankenstien mech made from parts of other mechs.
Most of it is originally parts built for Marauders.
Makes it kind of weird then, when the predecessor's weapon arm is completely different and so sleek/futuristic looking

After comparing the MWO's king crab to the TRO king crab. TRO king crab, never had such a large leg structure, and the legs were never that shape.
I think its safter to say the MWO king crab adopted Marauder's leg structure.
Really its more Alex's king crab copying the marauder than the marauder copying the king crab.

Lets not make it worse by trying to get the art to be even MORE like the original.

D is the least appealing of the group with C a close second worst.

It is a pair of Gauss Rifles, actually.

Nope, that is actually 2 gauss rifles that share a common barrel.,..or something....which makes total sense....

Two capacitor banks, two fire control systems, two loading systems, slaved to a shared barrel above the cockpit.
The reseen version actually has two barrels, however.
huh. Id only ever seen it in the tros. I dont remember then having a plan of what goes where so Id always assumed the arms were the gauss lol

When I first looked at the OP's 4 choices I couldn't tell them apart. I really had to go back and look at what the changes were before I noticed them.

I used to think that mech had 3 Gauss Rifles on it...I know I used to put 3x Gauss on it when I would derp around on MW:GBL. My arms would get shot off in short order and I would quit the mission...

In general, the vast majority of the canonical Inner Sphere Marauders and Marauder IIs - including the canonical "hero" variants of both, used by the Bounty Hunter - are all-energy-arms.
The only exception is the MAD-4L Marauder II, a Dark Age (e.g. post-3100) variant that carries a Gauss Rifle in each arm.
The Clans' Marauder IIC, on the other hand, has the IIC 4 (a 3070 variant that carries a HAG-40 in each arm, and splits each HAG between the arm and the corresponding side-torso), the IIC 5 (anther 3070 variant that carries an ER-PPC and an AP Gauss Rifle in each arm), the IIC 6 (a 3077 variant that carries a Gauss Rifle in one arm and a LB 10-X in the other arm), and the IIC 7 (a 3081 variant that carries a HAG-30 in one arm and a Gauss Rifle in the other arm, along with a SRM-4 in each arm).
So, it seems unlikely that a ballistics-arms Marauder would be happening anytime soon, unless PGI opts for a custom Hero Mech (instead of either of the canonical Bounty Hunter loadouts) or a custom third variant to make the Marauder IIC 3050-compliant (as the only "currently" available Marauder IIC variants would be the IIC Prime and the IIC 8).
