after the positive response from everyone with the Crab I made, and how much fun it was, I made the Flea. here's a link to the work in progress thread I have for it on polycount.

I'm also posting links again to the files, so people can also print fleas, and probably do other cool stuff with them.

why are you not working for PGI..... if you are cranking these out this fast......

While I highly dislike that concept art (I think it looks more like a Locust than a Flea), I certainly applaud your modelling efforts. Well done, mate! Looks pretty faithful to the concept.

Bear in mind that he had only a painted perspective shot.

No Orthos, not other reference, that is ******* impressive.

Wow.Just wow. It looks good, and it didn't take much time to finish.I think PGI should to get rid of their modelling team and hire this guy.

I don't want to come off as an arse, but i'd love to see how you'd do the Quickdraw. (Yes, i do realize we already have it in-game, but in my opinion, it has easily got the worst transition from concept to model.)

Though, i heard you're making the Marauder next? Can't wait to see how awesome it'll look!

thanks for all the responses, they are really appreciated.
I finally got the time lapse of making it up here

also, here are responses to most of the questions you guys had:

Bishop Steiner: I'm trying! I even had a promising conversation with their HR guy today.

Iqfish: because the high poly model is just a small part of what it takes to get a mech in game. It's not even the lowpoly model, UV'd, baked, textured and rigged.
kim swift did a good job of breaking asset production down here.

and yes, no orthos. I hate worrying that I've somehow gotten the back wrong.

Tarogato: yes, it looks a bit locusty. but have you seen the original flea design?! it's a box on chicken legs! In a way that's so litteral as to shame the AT-ST.

GonaDie: I have nothing against the current PGI modeling team and would really just like to join them. but yes, I did this work specifically to get their attention so they would hire me. I learned today that I am being considered.

Dawnstealer: 15 tons? seriously?! there's no way I would ever want to play with a 15 ton mech.

...unless it could climb on other mechs and tear cockpits out.

Juodas Varnas: No worries. I looked at the quickdraw again just because you mentioned it. yeah, it does look a bit off compared to the concept proportions. No, I have no intention of doign it. But I will challenge you to go read Heffay's thread on extracting mech models, download blender (free) and try re-proportioning it yourself.

I'm considering doing the marauder next if I have time. At this point I'm doubting I'm going to have much free time soon.

Odanan: I am not interested in doing commissions at this time.

The Locust more closely resembles the Cicada... Doesn't look like there was much imagination going on between these two concepts:

Differences between the Locust and Cicada (in nature) is really size and small variances in design... one is just a bigger bug than the other due to environment (epigenetics) and evolutionary changes. As far as BT goes... they could have made the Mech more "bug-like" adding more curves and smooth edges, but MWO wants the militaristic feel for it and I can't disagree with their designs... but I would really love to pilot the Flea and be a pain in someone's ass with that Mech lol :D
