A 7970 is faster in both computing and gaming vs a Geforce GTX 670 for only*$50 more, and is around 300-400% faster in compute. It's also better for high resolutions.

Figured I would point that out.

finally someone else who knows *** is up.

but in the end he'll eventually have to buy a new motherboard when newer cards come out because when he does buy that 2nd card hes not going to be as up to speed as those new cards.

so getting x16 x16 is far better in the long run.

example using info from your andand website w/e

PCIe 1.x PCIe 2.x PCIe 3.0
x1 250MB/sec 500MB/sec 1GB/sec
x2 500MB/sec 1GB/sec 2GB/sec
x4 1GB/sec 2GB/sec 4GB/sec
x8 2GB/sec 4GB/sec 8GB/sec
x16 GB/sec 8GB/sec 16GB/sec

so at x8 x8 with PCIe 3.0 he would be running at x16 x16 PCIe 2.0

why do that when you could get a different Motherboard now and have x16 x16 PCIe 3.0

Because also like that link shows physically the 7970 one of the most powerful cards out does not saturate the bandwidth of an 8x slot (as shows by the 0 difference between 8x and 16x) For a machine life of 4 years as the OP is stating a single 7970 will be perfect, duel 7970s even on an 8x slot will be perfectly fine seeing as they do not saturate the 8x slot.

That most certainly will last 4 years, and if and its a massive if because two 7970's will play every game between now and the next 5/6 years unless some massive advancement comes out of the blue.
If for some reason in 4 years time, the OP's CPU is still cutting it for gaming (fairly possible) he can always replace the crossfire with a single card of that time *insert uber GTX 1000/ HD 10000 here*

@kyuzo; I've been up, but I'm at work on my phone.

And DV is right, x8 PCIe 2.0 still doesn't have any performance disadvantages, let alone twice that bandwidth with 3.0.

Also OP, I recommend getting a better PSU of possible.
A few things I would recommend you consider.
Cooling:
http://www.microbyte...b13ce81b3418eaa
Closed loop solution, manufacturer guarantee for 5 years. Comes with good thermal paste.

Case: http://www.microbyte...6f5945da0c45fbf
A little bit better cooling and cable management.

http://www.microbyte...46acf2baa8857d6
Same specs and memory chips as the Corsair, just different brand and heatspreader.

http://www.microbyte...c8dce5853fbd525
You're going to want a better PSU with your build than what you have. Seasonic >>>>>>>> Seventeam.

or http://www.microbyte...d8410ca11e0f6c6
Same internals, different company, slightly cheaper.

If you're doing any computing at all, a Radeon HD 7970 will be three to four times faster on average versus a Geforce GTX 670.

It also doesn't do too bad for gaming;

A: I'm not tired. I'm actually more awake at night, but family and work is the reason I don't get to be purely nocturnal.
B: Because I might miss something on the forums I should post on.
C: Because... wait I can't think of anymore.
D: Because I'm tired and plausibly not thinking straight?
