Breaking The Meta Series

KFX builds- They all have 6JJ's and ECM....but after that is when things get weird.
1st weird build: 1 ER laser of every size, 4x MG's.
2nd: ER LL or ER PPC with 1 cERML and SRM6 Artemis.
3rd: ER LL, SRM6 or SRM4, 2x MG's, 1 cERML
These are all builds i've run for awhile. 1st build i used for months. Damage? Everywhere from 150 to +900. Got my Ace of Spades title in it.

Having one or two good games a week in subpar builds is hardly breaking the meta. Anyone can post a one off match with 2+ kills and >500 damage if you give them a week to try for that "perfect" game.
That's why I always say the best thing to test a mech or study a loadout is... statistic.
A video or an "end match screenshot" mean nothing.

Even that can be skewed by a number of factors. Group vs solo queue for one, and I know I can game PSR to give me braindead opponents if I'm willing to put up with four or five terrible games. But yes, statistics over the course of 100 games (minimum, more is better obviously) are a much better indicator of a mech's performance. Even streaming for a couple of hours and running nothing but that mech would be better than just end of match screens/videos.

I think the point is that meta and Ice Ferret should never be used in the same sentence. The same way you never hear of meta builds for the Mist Lynx or Commando.

firstly meta means the most efficient way to play something
and secondly ice ferret is better than cicada and possibly better than shadow cat

To "break" the meta, boating lasers is the wrong way to do it.
But there's also the other point people brought up. Amazing pilots in crappy mechs can still pull off good numbers in a game but it doesn't change the fact they the mech was a bad one to begin with.

The most efficient way to play the Ice Ferret is to play an Arctic Cheetah.

I do Orions.
My Protector has an AC20, 2xSRM6A, 2xML and it finishes. Other times I take the Protector out with 2xLL, 2xLRM15A, TAG, BAP and chill at the back lobbing LRMs and burning legs off lights who try to flank us.
Orions are fun!

I do that too! What else do you manage to get in there? I'm at work so I can't watch right now.
I think mine has 3 SML and 2.5 tons of ammo or something along those lines.
Lb20x! I have done it in mine when I started eliting them, tried the ac20 and ultra ac20 as well. But the glory of the Lb20 was just too much! The sound! The weight of the impact! The feedback animation! Oooh, golly. It is something I recommend to every adder owner.
Now I think I might be on to something here with this adder, my statistics from "mad stats" speaks for it, at: 430 average damage, win ratio of 1.85 and KD ratio of 2.84 a little less then 600 matches played.
Makes everything else I play look shoddy in comparison :/

To that end I want to showcase a "bad" mech doing well once a week here to hopefully encourage people to start thinking for themselves and finding ways to make each mech work.
Mods, I know this thread could go into player creations, but I really hope you keep it in the general discussion so that it can be at the forefront of people's minds and we start to break the meta up a bit and add a little variety to the game.
First Week Video: 3 Kills 721 DMG Ice Ferret Match
Oh come on people are not stupid. In mid and low PSR you can do good with any mech for the most part. In higher PSR you can do good some time with fun mechs but it will never be consistant. The reason people bring good mechs in higher PSR is because you are expected to carry and you play against good people a lot. Its not much fun trying to carry and play against a good team in a 4th rate goofy mech.

OK, here's me the most torn up I've ever been in the Protector.
And here's another game with my best damage in the Protector. BTW, this is in the LRM build.

oh come on
low psr, high psr, it's all a pile of bs
right now a player with sub 25 games can be constantly dropping against members of the top units like cjx, sjr, lords in the solo queue
