This is the motto of Inner Sphere MechWarriors: "Death Before Dispossession"

I like the body a lot better on this one. I'm not a fan of the back part of the concept art that we have. It seems too wide and looks like if seen from a top view it would make out a triangle-ish shape (Could be the angle of the picture though)

Would like something more like this but with the cannon on the side.

No thanks.

I prefer the TRO Project Phoenix artwork to this and to PGI's take on the Marauder.

I don't like any Marauder that has non-realistic (compared to the stats) weapon locations. And that centerline AC is definitely not mounted in the right torso like the stats say. It's not even split-crit CT/RT, which would have made it acceptable.

In my opinion:

TRO Project Phoenix Marauder > MWO Marauder > Any Centerline AC Marauder

If PGI had gone with the centerline gun it would have pissed me off enough to not buy it at all, like those of you who thought the BH2 was too slow. And that would have deprived me of my second-favorite BattleMech of all time (Locust being #1). I'm glad that didn't happen, because changing the model would have been a hell of a lot harder than changing an XML stat.

Having a center gun is pretty stupid. One stray shell or a laser blast and suddenly your gun cannot twist or look up or down and it is basically useless.

That's a fine looking Marauder.

Nice work.

And if you fight without arm lock, then such AC hits exactly the same spot as your arm-mounted PPCs do, instantly. You don't have to wait until your entire torso moves to desired direction.

By the way, what about any other 'Mech with arm-mounted weapon(s)? To paraphrase your words "One stray shell or a laser blast and suddenly your gun arm cannot move or look up or down and it is basically useless."
For example the Griffin with its right arm shoulder actuator destroyed by a stray shot is almost useless, even if its PPCs stays attached. etc.

Oh, I get the art and knowing the Goliath has a turret.... But there just aren't enough crit slots in the head or CT for a PPC or AC5. Having it offset just makes more sense to me is all. It is a very nice model though, were it the only choice, I'd be happy with it.

There is if you use Clan Tech. :D

That's absolutely okay.

However, there're many 'Mechs with centerline big guns. The Hussar with its dorsal ER Large Laser. The Goliath has a centerline PPC (and later Gauss rifle).

Even the Clan Scylla comes with ER Large Laser above its cockpit. Etc.

And of course, the Behemoth with its monstrous dorsal ... eh ... Small Pulse Laser. :D

However, none of those centerline guns are actually turreted, which has its own special rules in BattleTech. -_-

Quote

BattleMech Turrets come in three primary forms: shoulder turrets, quad ’Mech turrets and head turrets. Bipedal (non-quad) ’Mechs may only mount shoulder and head turrets, while quads may only use quad ’Mech turrets and head turrets. In all three cases, the weapons assigned to these turrets — which must be clearly noted on the unit’s record sheet — may be rotated to any desired facing in accordance with the rules for vehicle turrets (see pp. 105-106, Total Warfare). In the case of shoulder turrets, however, the turret may not fire through either of the ’Mech’s opposite-side hexsides (as doing so would essentially be firing through the unit’s own head).

Unlike vehicle turrets, BattleMech Turrets have no distinct hit locations and are treated as part of the body location in which they are mounted. Furthermore, all BattleMech Turrets have a critical slot representing the turret mechanism itself. If this slot sustains a critical hit, the turret is locked in the facing it had during the turn in which the critical hit occurred, and remains in that facing until repaired.

- Tactical Operations, pg. 347

Also, for the Golaith, the PPC on the GOL-1H & the Gauss Rifle on the GOL-3M are actually located in the right-torso of each variant. ;)

Do you remember Mektek's Marauder from their mod of MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries? Posted Image

This is a really good one. Though I like the smoother design that resembles the TBR and KGC I can't deny the addition of slimmer arms and middle.

i don't like Alex's cockpit design at all, but i LOVE CGL's version since it's closer to the original

i'm not buying PGI's Marauder, but if it looked like CGL's i'd reconsider

that being said the final version of the mechs in the last clan pack looked different from the original concept art so you never know...

Just curious though ...

Who would want to play a Marauder in MWO if it had a giant hit box sitting on top of its head? That gun can be hit from any angle and the mech would be dead before delivery with that geometry in MWO. The gun sticks up so far it can be hit even when the mech is trying to hdie behind a hill.

The picture you posted may look good to some folks but it wouldn't play well and when designing for MWO both looks and playability are crucial elements. Just look at how many comments on these forums result from either favourable or unfavourable geometry/hit boxes.

To be honest, this argument also extends to the guns on the Jager and Catapult. The bigger guns look cool but PGI is also trying to balance the arm and torso hit boxes at the same time ... so big arm weapons can also be big arm shields depending on the situation.

That goes directly into the coloring book for my children, my daughter loves coloring mechs.
And gummi bears. But mechs are in her top 3 :D

Now this is a mech I might put 20 bucks into. Not the one PGI came up with.

So far, there is not. But I am pretty sure that the upcoming Combat Manual will have it.
