Mow I understand why the Victor was lacking knee caps for more than a year. It wasn't quality control failiure on PGI's part ... it was self mutilation. Posted Image

Werewolf "Frankenmech" commission[color=#241E12]
The gladiator's Crusader began as family heirloom, serving in a Lyran mech regiment.

After a failed raid on a Kurita world during in 3020, the pilot was the sole survivor of a company who was meant to cover the battalion's rearguard. Due to faulty intelligence and arrogance of the CO, the rearguard got overrun by a "nonexistent" second Kurita mech battalion on the planet.

He makes it barely alive back to the dropzone and his CO, a noble blamed him for the folly, and used his connection to pressure him out of the LCAF. Eventually, as with so many disgraced and dispossessed Mechwarriors, the pilot ends up on Solaris.

The scarred and heavily damaged Crusader is repaired to the best of his ability, but he's forced to take some risky fights to try to establish himself, and things go south, fast. the Crusader ends up with a ammo explosion of the remaining SRM ammo, literally blowing the mech in half with the legs being utterly destroyed. The upper body, was miraculously mostly intact, but the level of damage was far beyond our warrior's means to fix.

The pilot gets a Clint in a shady deal to work off his loans and actually with a few smaller upgrades the Clint becomes a good money earner. Eventually piece by piece the Crusader is repaired, but a new lower body is either not available, or simply too expensive.

But, one aspect oft overlooked due to the glamour of the Games, is that Solaris has literally the greatest scrapyards for mech parts in the entire Inner Sphere. Literally every class of mech ever built, has fought and been destroyed on Solaris at one time or another. While combing thru Cy's Mech City , in the International Zone, our pilot came across the well preserved, but ancient, legs of a long obsolete and "primitive" Bellerophon mech, that had had the opposite fate of his own mech, with the entire upper body (and pilot) being consumed in a massive ammo explosion.

While still ripped off, for what it, the legs were still less than 1/3 the cost of a replacement donor set from a Crusader, being literally no market for them. With time and some heavy reinforcements, he is able to modify them and attach them to his beloved Crusader.

[color=#241E12]
due to a lack of spare parts he improvises by using other parts and the armament gets a workover, the SRMs were part of the original legs, and as such, gone now. Being a CRD-3K its ruined lrm 10 get replaced by 2 srm4 and 2 srm 6 2 medium lasers in the left and right torso and 1 medium in each arm with a large laser in the right arm to complete the armament.

Finally he starts to add cosmetic customization based on his love of wolves, for both brand recognition, and intimidation factor. He is successful in the lower and mid range Solaris, but he never really gets higher. But after several years of toil, he is able to pay off his debt, and replaces the SRM battery with the original paired LRM 10s, making it more useful in the more open battlefields of the Inner Sphere.

With that, he sets off for Galatea, to try his luck as a Merc, and possibly find and demand satisfaction from a certain Noble who has cost him his reputation and so many years of his life.*

*Last bit is pure conjecture on my part as info from the Patron ends there.

The Inspiration was a mix of the Patron not being completely happy with an earlier version he had commissioned from a different artist. Looking at it, I felt it was way too stylized/gundamy even by the "new" Totem Mech standards of silliness in Battletech.

Instead I took inspiration from the old "Velite" Roman Wolf Legions, where the Wolf/Hound/Jackal head was more of a cosmetic covering over the existent Crusader's Cockpit.

I also felt that manufacturing a new set of digitigrade legs from scratch felt very very unlikely (being that in 3025 the only operation design with digitigrades were the exceedingly rare Mongoose, the prefab knowledge and cost for a largely not used leg design seemed extreme).
