They don't frustrate me at all, I don't play them unless the jackpot is totally ridiculous, and even then I know that they I'm less likely to win than I am to get struck by lightening.

I completely understand the point, but in the end it is just as crap as the lotery is. You have good luck or bad luck, and can try to change the odds by playing more,... In the end, the challenge tells more about us then it does about PGI.

I get what your saying. I'm not sure I agree, but it is definently a valid way of looking at it.

I 100% agree with that last statement. It does say a lot more about the community than it does PGI. Sadly, I don't like what I see. This challenge showed a real immature and ugly side of the community. It is a real sad shame.

people will cheat an online game wherever they can.

Thats the essence of online gaming at all. Especially EVE

worse than that actually, coming from a person whose had better than 10 nerve conduction tests and MRIs to track nerve damage post being struck by lightning

That was what I liked about Eve actually, take the heat or get out.

I was seriously mad when Fishbutt became bannable, EVERYONE got Fishbutt, it was a right of passage.

But no, they started catering to the hamsters and now they are down to 2007 levels of concurrent players, the game I loved is dead.

Yeah that would be the less likely.

No hate man, but its 1:1,000,000 IF you live in the US (we have a lot a lightening)

Its like 3billion to one on one of those huge jackpots, everyone and their damn cat is in.

No, the suicides and suspensions were a natural consequence o the mistakes made in setting up this event. Had the disconnect monitor actually worked at the beginning, things would have been fine. But after charging people with DC's after they were killed (whihc was contrary to event rules) their fix was to remove the DC penalty. When coupled with the fact that the random maps were heavily weighted towards two maps or maybe three, map farming became inevitable. This falls on PGI not the DC/Suiciders.

I'd just like to point out that there is no evidence at all that the map selection was biased in any way. Different people report missing different maps for the most part ... HPG, Crimson, Canyon, Caustic, etc ... which is exactly what you expect with a random process. It feels to each individual like the selection is biased, that the maps you need are the rarest ... but that is true for everyone and even when the probability of every map is the same it feels like the last one you need is the rarest.

You don't need to invoke any sort of imbalance in map delivery to get the results we have seen in this tournament.

Not demonizing, just disappointed a bit.

I'm not as disappointed about the cheating. Like you said, it's online gaming and there will always be cheaters. I do expect cheaters and I do expect it to be weeded out when possible.

Where I am a bit disappointed is seeing so many players defending poor player conduct on PGI's poorly implemented challenge when ultimately player conduct falls on the player.

Im most dissapointed with all the revenge TKing and legging from people I thought were better than that.

Overall it is a good community as a whole (or I wouldn't post here), but for now, I feel many have let me down a bit (well, let me down as much as faceless people on the net can anyway).

The chance of an average person living in the US being struck by lightning in a given year is estimated at 1 in 500,000, while the chance of being struck by lightning in a lifetime is 1 in 6250 (estimated lifespan of 80 years).

Unless you live in Tampa where its higher (I dont) or in Florida in general (I do)

Right so weighted you are looking at a 1:81 chance of getting a map you want.

Unwieghted (PGI) is 9! that is 9*8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1

....at 10 minutes a match with the ****** matchmaker.

Cant be disappointed if the community here does what every other community online does unless you were mistakenly holding this community in higher regard than any other community (which is highly unlikely given the general feeling of how toxic this community supposedly is - btw its not as bad as you think)

I support any punishment for people who repeatedly disconnected or went afk or suicided. Simply because thats griefing. I do not care if this was during the event or at any other point. I am also pretty sure it is against the Code of Conduct. So any argument against punishment due to the event does not make sense. You signed up for this game, the CoC stands and if you act against it you have to be prepared for punishment. Being greedy for rewards is no excuse.

Personally I was afk in a single match due to a cooking incident. I played many matches in both CW and Pub que even after I had my stuff done and I did not grief.

Last paragraph from the post you quoted, but left out of your response...

"Overall it is a good community as a whole (or I wouldn't post here), but for now, I feel many have let me down a bit (well, let me down as much as faceless people on the net can anyway). "

So yea, I know it isn't THAT bad. Still, I guy can be let down :).

lol I dont get let down anymore, Im surprised if a community doesnt do as I expect they will. But, this isnt EVE, and this isnt CCP so they should hand out punishment for breaking the rules. Thats why ppl follow rules. If they dont punish ppl for not following them, theyre tacitly saying its OK to do.

Played all weekend almost never got caustic or hpg.
Final day got tons of every map but caustic.
Nearly 8 hrs of farming got caustic twice both plagued by multiple discos/suiciders.
Final hours after point reduction I draw caustic 6+ times mostly with multiple discos/suiciders.
Then finally after playing MWO for the majority of the weekend I finally drew caustic and managed to scrape a score 20pts over the requirement for the 2nd tier due to a suicide and a disco.

IMO should have just canceled event and given everyone 500k-1mil per map/tier completed + a random goodie or something as well as giving the top rank players something special whether it be the advertised prizes or not
