They have people that play this game and warned them beforehand (or so I've heard Posted Image), which makes it worse.

Nobody really cares that it's a mech game. WoT is insanely popular these days, so it makes sense they'd want to copy it.


The minimap before the patch was fine as it was.
If something was missing, then it was a zoom in/out function over comma and dot keys, the same way it was possible to zoom in and out like in Wolfenstein Enemey Territory.

That was a good solution... but not this ********

Oh, wait! Beacuse of new mini map I don't need to use Battlegrid anymore (yes, it was useful before this patch)! I can see everything now at mini map! What a discovery! No more pressing "b" while playing! Now I can... /cold water into my face/ take some rest from playing MWO.

I would rather bet somebody at the very top of the pecking order refuses to listen to any feedback once he sets his mind on something. PGI staff does play this game. At least some of them. No way nobody protested unless almost nobody knew or nobody was allowed to protest.

As some of my fellow mechwarriors above I will be taking a break until the situation's resolved.
I believe these latest changes to be... now how should I put it... questionable and detrimental to the in-game quality of life.
This is a personal opinion, though I trust a grounded one.

Obviously PGI plays their own game... how on earth will they come up with novel ideas like an "upgraded" minimap?

Didn't you hear the news? PGI had to outsource game testing to Africa or something. A DEST team broke the security measures now and provided Com Star with these pictures of the quality testing process:

Yes I know that PGI staff guys are playing .. i shot Tina myself recently.
But as you say if they knew about the impact of the minimap change and warned about it the "leadership"
seems to have ignored it, which is reckless IMO.

PGI, please hotfix this out of the game!
The old map gave you information about your view direction relative to your legs, your legs direction, your teammates position, your teammates view direction, enemy positions and view direction in close and seismic positions.

The new map does nothing off all this.
In a merge / a fight a with enemies closer than 150m you dont even see if one is behind you. In a knife fight all you see is a nearly empty map with one area full of blue and red mud. no positional information can be taken out of this. No idea how the fight goes. No idea which team mate needs help. Nothing!

If you dont want tactical gameplay, you are on the perfectly right way ... buy why should one play MWO then?

Well I was referring more to their squirrels and QA, but some of the devs do play the game too, so *shrug*

LOLOLOL, I was testing the new Frozen...then after 1 second I turn to a near Commando....

I lolled so hard seeying, in the mini map, its red dot was occupying an entire map square!!!

Same. Not logging in till it's fixed. Will uninstall and cancel preorders in a week. No interest in relearning basic movement.

Yes, copy. But, man, you really need to copy someone to be fine? You know you can be fine man without copying another people? Just be yourself? Same in MWO. It's not a tank game, even if it looks similar at begin. I talk with people who play WoT and when they started playing MWO, after few matches "I know how to pilot, I've been playing WoT" they changed their opinion. MWO is a diffrent game. Mechs are much bigger than tanks, harder to pilot. And MWO doesn't need to be WoT to be fine game.

+1 for complaints on new minimap. I started playing a couple of months ago and finally felt like I had the whole torso/legs independent thing down. I jumped in for a few games this afternoon and it's like starting the game from scratch all over again. Hard to understand how this made it past the play testers.

I'd prefer old minimap + zoom hot key + directional mech symbols. When zoomed in showing distant targets around the edge would be a plus.

That is a bad analogy because HD-DVD was the better technology whereas this new mini-map is something far far worse.

That being said everyone should just use 3rd person view now since it hides the mini-map and allows you to see your orientation. Clearly PGI is mad we haven't been using that greatly requested feature so they are doing what they can to make it a more desirable feature.Posted Image
