Now that I know I am Tier 5, how do I reach Tiers 4 &3? What must I do? I am sure others are thinking the same thing.

You need to score high match scores. Either to help you go up in rating or to prevent your rating going down in games that go bad for you.

As match score is hugely based around damage done (which was clearly shown by last weekend's challenge) a rather sure way of advancing is by doing a lot of damage. Not necessarily applying damage to the correct part but just damage in general because every two points of damage is worth 1 matchpoint. (check out your matchscores, just divide your damage by 2 and see how much it makes up of your score, it can be scary).

To illustrate, this weekend I took out my GaussJager for an excellent game, 5 kills with about 320 damage. Some assists, won, survived. Got 204 match score iirc. O_o

So the answer to your question could very well be: LRM-mechs, or Clan mechs that can boat Streaks. Both weapon systems can reap huge rewards versus players with less skill, letting you rack up great damage and thus match score. As you go up in ranks you'll find that people will wise up to these tactics though.

If you're not fond of guided missiles you'll probably need another mech with a big damage output. Which suggests a Heavy or Assault.

You like to play Lights? Sorry, but skillfully rear-coring and killing that enemy Assault hardly netted you any damage, no match score for you!!!

That's the state of the current match score I'm afraid. I'm not happy about it but that's what it is.

But really, I just don't bother. I'm middle of Tier 4 and I know I'm not a bad player, I just favor fun over Tier rating. And for me fun means constantly levelling new mechs. Most in the Light category. It may not be good for my match scores but you know what? "Tier, schmier.".

So much of it has to do with team performance. I've had 325 damage, a kill, and four assists and still lost PSR because the team got rolled and I had top damage. I think you really need some high powered Clan metamech and the ability and willingness to carry the team all day, every day, to be sure. Otherwise, I've read that it ought to shake out over a couple thousand drops with most everyone ending up around the middle.

I'm not worried about it, frankly. I'll take that 2000 drops to get there. That T5 rating only means that I ought to see meta über comp players rarely. Unfortunately, Captain Tryhard and his enormously cheery and effervescent sidekick Metagirl seem to hang out in north Tier 4 and throw awesome fits in VoIP if the rest of us Underhivers aren't doing what we're told....even when it's not going to work (like base-camping your own base in an assault match and ceding initiative to the other team). Mostly, and thankfully, the other Underhivers aren't the good Captain or his lady friend-they're cool folks out for fun, some of whom are talented drop callers, leading to much melee action and use of every weapon system in the game. Frankly, I'm okay with that.

Win games.

Do lots of damage.

KDR is meaningless for tier, so don't bother trying to preserve it.

Trial TDR-9SE isn't bad if you're a new player. I got my alt to mid T3 in it.

If you are curious about how a match impacted your PSR look and the end of round screen. Switch to the tab that breaks down your performance. On the bottom of the center panel is an icon. If the icon is a green arrow pointing up, your PSR went up. If it's a red arrow pointing down, you lost PSR. If it's a yellow "=", it stayed the same. There is a bar on the Home Tab that shows your progress in your current tier. Sorry they haven't release details on exact numbers.

Wait. I'M in North Tier 4. And I get yelled at a lot. Was he ... Was SHE? ... WERE THEY?! ...

Dang. I've witnessed the first-to-fight, first-to-die adventures of that dynamic duo!

Also, that'd make a badass web comic. Is Critical Hits even around any more?

"The Interplanetary Adventures of Captain Tryhard and Metagirl"

Copyright that immediately.

Do lots of damage AND play as part of the team.

Only half of Match Score is damage, other half is from teamwork.

Thanks guys especially Chados. Maybe things will come together after I buy and basic another Ebon Jaguar. I then plan to finish eliting my T-Wolves/master my Warhawk.

FYI: PSR and Match score are generated in similar manners, but last I knew they each weigh different actions differently. So, in theory, one could get a low match score, but have a high "PSR score" for the match.

As far as what one must do... One must not only get better, but they also have to do "unspeakable*" things... (Typically: be a bit of a coward. Snipe, hide, reposition, repeat.Try to live as long as possible and/or not die in a match. Win matches.)

*By unspeakable... for me that meant following a... "meta". Yes. You heard it. I followed a meta in the game! Don't look at me! The shame! (I was toying with a dual CERLL Arctic Cheetah. I knew I could do well it in before, as snipe and run isn't a new strategy for me. However, if I want a better PSR, that's basically my way to get it up.)

Personally speaking (even though I'm challenging myself to get to T3), I wouldn't worry about PSR. Just play the game in a way you enjoy. As long as you feel you are having fun, then all is "working as intended". If you ever want a challenge, then raising PSR is always an option.

(One flaw with PSR, I don't preform the same from mech to mech, variant to variant, or even loadout to loadout. It also seems to be heavily bias towards winning...)

Clan mechs are nice. Clan tech does have it's advantages. However, I feel that IS mechs have their own advantages as well. It's mostly in how you use them.

Because I like hard mode :P ? I run *Victors and Catapults,* for goodness' sake!

Jokes aside, I seem to gravitate to the underdog, and enjoy finding ways to make them work in my particular idiom.

I wish using an Urbanmech either gave you a PSR score bonus or voids any change (positive or negative)

When you really think about it, KDR has always been meaningless, unless you`ve never died... Otherwise you`re just another respawned ghost, just like everyone else that died.

Not to mention it says nothing about your capacity for teamplay, tactical prowess, or actual skill.... I just shows that` you´re good at "frag-stealing", something no real warrior would ever complain about because you probably saved his life by doing it, and irrelevant of that you can now both proceed to engage the next enemy.

The only thing KDR has ever been good for in MWO is pre-pubescent e-peening.

You like challenges I suggest LRM equipped Adders, and Gauss/Laser Vomit Warhawks, both Omnis are good but both have limitations. If after Mastering the Adders try Gauss Stormcrows.

What little time I have for MWO/CW I plan to try to improve my PSR.

Actually, the most important thing you can do is win.

http://mwomercs.com/...ng-skill-level/

Under the current system, even very low scores on a win can result in PSR increase. The scores required to increase under a loss are much much higher. PGI has not released numbers, but the numbers in the relevant threads show your real hope lies in being on teams that win consistently.

Also, damage is the most important thing you can do to increase matchscore. Damage/2 is now added directly to your matchscore (used to be damage/10):
