Well, that and combined with the fact it was console only, which realy hamperd multiplayer.

That and the firing rate resembles metal slug more than an actual mechwarrior game. Heat? Whats heat? Reload times? who needs those!

But the problem is Mechassault was part of the franchise. 1 &2. Look companies have to make money and they thought they could (and most likely did) by dumbing down and arcadising? the games. Now if you liked them thats fine, and I would hope no one would try to thump ya for simply enjoying playing them, but they represent the downward spirial of the Mechwarrior games in general and I think thats why so many people have a blind hate for them. IMO.
