Yes, I mean that multimillion dollar corporation on the NYSE known as BTE.................

Have no idea what you mean by backed by Battletech.

Anyway these guys made and finished great Kickstarter games with the Shadowrun series.

I'm in on this day one.

And thank God it's turned based.

That picture with the King Crab amoungst the tanks and other troops is what MWO SHOULD be. That would rock. Imagine pulling some world of tanks players over and some others from other games to play such a role. Of course if a player died in a mech, they could always be transported to an infantry or tanker role until they die then get put lower and lower untill only they can satchel charge some legs.

I'm more a tanker than a mech driver but if I understand the game lore. Arn't tanks meant to be crap in this universe? I know in another mech game the mechs where more mobile weapons platforms while tanks and other amoured forces still had the edge in raw staying power and firepower.

Still it could be interesting to add tanks to this game but I really doubt it will everhappen.

Mechwarrior Tactics kinda destroyed any chance of me backing another game like this altho im interested to see if it fuels my need for TT retro gaming

Ah yes MW:T....where the mech designs make the TRO (<-is that correct?) designs look good and makes The WarZ look less like a sham IMO.

Don't usually trust kickstarters myself, especially the ones that attempt to tug at my nostalgia strings (looking at you shemnue 3) but I'll just observe this and see how it goes.

BattleTech is a product, not a company.

It's like saying "if this thing is backed by Windows". Windows can't back anything. It's a program. Microsoft could, though, because they are an entity.

There are all possible kinds of tank in the BattleTech universe:
  • cheap Scorpion Light tank - easy to kill when alone, but dangerous in larger groups
  • medium Vedette - essentially faster and better armored Scorpion
  • heavy Manticore - can go to-to-toe with the majority of heavy 'Mechs and its BV-cheaper
  • Hetzer - great ambusher with AC-20
  • Von Luckner - meet this vehicle with AC-20, SRMs and LRMs in broken terrain
.. and my favorite SRM Carrier with "ten" SRM-6s. :D

'Mechs are the kings of the battlefield, that's true. But a well-designed tank can ruin their day. There are some optional rules that make tanks even more durable and effective.

P.S. Don't forget that hovercraft and helicopters counts as vehicles too.

You clearly haven't met Behemoth, and her older sister Behemoth II

When it comes to tanks, tanking things, those two can ruin everyone's day.

Waiting for this since Mechforce, soooo happy =D
I haven't been waiting for it since MechForce, but I really did enjoy the rankings for playing in MFNA.

______________________________

I'm reading a LOT of negativity in this particular thread about MWO, and I need to take a moment point a couple of things out...

1) Jordan Weisman, who co-created BattleTech with L. Ross Babcock III, and Mitch Gitelman, who wrote the greater portion of the stories we played for MechWarrior II, Ghost Bear's Legacy, Mercenaries, MechCommander, MechWarrior III, Desperate Measures/Gold, Pirate's Moon, and MechCommander II, as well as Shadowrun Returns: Dead Man's Switch, Dragonfall, and Hong Kong -which it has been pointed out all three have been delivered complete and on-time- are going to be building this new game, as well. These are the original people who conceived and built the BattleTech universe, both on tabletop and in the computer games, and delivered some of the most beloved game-play we've had over the years. The fact is they are now taking over where everyone who worked on MechWarrior: Tactics stopped, building a new iso game we can all enjoy. If you can't have faith in that sort of resume, and are unwilling to figure out what the rest of the BattleTech universe is about, being far above and beyond the simple combat, then that's just sad.

2) Picture, for a moment, that PGI is sharing with Harebrained Schemes (HBS) the BattleMech chassis' of MechWarrior Online for this new BattleTech game. Now, picture sharing of more, between PGI and HBS, for various other assets in the future, such as the Mercenary MechWarrior logistics and management we were initially promised here, but that will actually be delivered, in accordance with the original game books, which were extraordinarily detailed, by the way, in this new BattleTech venture. What else will be shared? Will we be getting not one game that actually works with the brilliant original source material, one that is an isometric game that is turn-based, allowing you to have time to pick your moves, and then shows you a movie of the execution of those actions, like MechWarrior: Tactics did -I'm not saying this is the direction HBS is moving in with the new game, but I think it's a distinct possibility-, but two games that actually work within the source material of the universe, the latter being MechWarrior Online, here?

Those of you who are putting down MechWarrior Online, after they have graciously agreed to share Flying Debris' 'Mech designs, are overlooking the possibility that this could be a start to getting MechWarrior Online finally into the working order that many of us, especially we veterans of the universe of BattleTech, have wanted since these games began being produced two decades ago. Think beyond what we've all suffered, come to one of the two podcasts this coming Monday, read the Kickstarter page this coming Tuesday, and then make your decision, but don't do so in a vacuum. Do so with the open mind and understanding that the creator of BattleTech will be in charge of this venture, as well.

In actuallity to the lore ,the mechs where considered kind of rare an only the reigning states had them and some houses in the realms, tanks and other support where cheaper and more abundant ,but a bunch could mess up a mechs day, the idea of the game was to be playing the battles where the mechs happened to be at major battle and fighting each other .

OH MAN! If they're getting the Shadowrun people to work on this then it's gonna be good hands down! It will be infinitely better than MechWarrior Tactics, damn I bought into the top founders program for that piece of work. IGP can eat dirt.

It's cool that they're starting with Succession Wars only. Perhaps if they later advance the timeline they can attempt to remake the Clans for a more balanced game.

i just hope i can play this offline and on my laptop.
I like turn based combat like civ 5 and so his interests me greatly
I usually play MWO on my desktop, because i get 20fps on my laptop w/ the lowest possible settings, but yeah, would love to see how it turns out!

Maybe they'll add virtual dice we can roll in game.

Not sure if infantry will be included as well. That would make flamers pretty useful.

This is absolutely b'dass. Shadowrun Returns was fantastic, and made only better by the campaign editor. Hope that's a feature here. And anyone who thinks turn-based games are slow and boring has clearly not played the X-COM reboot, which was incredible despite my reservations as a vet of the original.

Seriously. Speed chess with 'Mechs, tanks, infantry, air cover, on- and off-board artillery, high explosives. Hell, maybe they'll do the space combat thing... That would be pretty awesome, especially for large-scale campaigns.

The one thing I'm really hoping for is a solid tutorial; I never got to play the board game as much as I wanted to and if they're staying close to it, it could be pretty daunting for players new to these kind of in-depth wargames.

As I think about this, PGI must have some secret rights % of money for this new game, as a deal to let them use their designs from MWO. Knowing that this new game will be the death of MWO, they have things set up to "pass the torch", onto this new game! (aka MWO will lose 95% of its players, as those jump to this new game completely!)

Folks, time to save your money to spend on the new game coming out, use up your banked premiume time, etc, before its wasted for Nothing! :)

Are the later Shadowrun games better than the first? I was really disappointed in DMS. Far too linear to me & the save points were a drag.

Jordan is the co-creator of BattleTech, I believe he was the one who wrote the Mechwarrior RPG (yeah MW was originally a pen and paper RPG). I do not doubt that HBS' BattleTech will be as true to lore as possible.

Yeah, I hate what PGI has done with the ATLAS (and the Dire Wolf to a lesser extent), I hope to see the Atlas actually stepping on light mechs rather than light mechs standing between it's legs shooting it with no consequences.

PGI doubled the armor on all mechs way back, thats why a light can take several shots of AC20 or 6ml and still run like the wind and shrug it off

The wallpaper art looks like they're basing their art off MWOs style, are you going to let them use game assets as well? That would give them a massive boon with their project if that's the case.

I know this, the point I was making is that light mechs in MWO can stand underneath and around the legs of larger mechs without getting knocked back, knocked down, or taking any significant amount of collision damage.
