As the title asks, does your tier decay due to inactivity? I dont play much anymore and I honestly wouldnt mind my tier dropping from Tier2 to 3 or 4 since I find upper level combat boring.

Thanks
Mogs

I doubt it, since if you're not playing any matches, your PSR won't move at all.

@Torgun: True but Elo did decay over time.

Edit: Upon reading it again, it doesn't really answer your question, but I think -- since it's supposedly not a ranking system -- your tier shouldn't decay due to other people moving up or whatnot.

Even though there was a promise of Elo decay of some form, I don't believe it was ever implemented.

Someone might be interested in my experience:
I stopped playing MWO End of 2017 due to lack of time. I was Tier 1 at that time.

I resumed playing for the recent christmas event and just realised I am Tier 4 now. Not due to underperforming ingame, I'd say.

There was a PSR reset last year.

Thanks for your answer. It really helps, and is quite a good description of how it works now! I did not read all update news thoroughly, so I seem to have missed that!

I'm not a good friend of how match score is determined (since taking down enemies with dealing fewer damage is better than spreading damage), but the new tier concept certainly sounds better than before!

Also holy hell that's quite a necro there!

When opening a new thread, you easily run into a troll telling you to google the answer. So digging out old information is one of my mechanisms to avoid trolls. ^^

► All MWO players - every single one, fresh Cadets included - were moved to the mid-Tier 3 in July 2020. ▼

► In December 2020 PGI made another movement: All players registered after July 2020 with less than 20-25 games have been moved to Tier 5. The PGI's original intent was to move those new Cadets (i.e. new players registered after July 2020 and with less than 20-25 games) to Tier 5, so they would not have to face skilled Tier 1 and Tier 2 players. ▼

► How I understand it, that was the intent ... ▼

► Now insert a piece of PGI's programming. ▼

All players with less than 20-25 games played after July 2020 were moved to Tier 5, even if they have been registered since 2011. ▼

► Depending on how good player you are, you should move to Tier 3 in a week or two, and to Tier 1 in another week or two. ▼

► Have fun!.

Hehe this explains nicely what happened to my two accounts

My clan account was tier 2 and is now tier 3 because I played a few games last year (obviously just enough to avoid the tier 5 downgrade)

My IS account was tier 3(?) and is now tier 5 because I only just started playing it again

Interestingly with the new PSR system it looks like you're more likely to stay down in lower tiers if you play IS mechs exclusively (and especially if you play all IS mechs not just the top tier ones) as they mostly underperform clan ones. Also - tier 5 is much more fun that tier 3!

I can not quite agree.

The Inner Sphere has many well-performing BattleMechs.

For example: the annoying Flea, Javelin, Firestarter, Wolfhound, Assassin, Cicada, Vulcan, Phoenix Hawk ...

Crab and Hunchback are not flashy, but they are solid 'Mechs.

The Holy Trinity of Griffin, Shadow Hawk and Wolverine still can get their job done.

I have seen people do well in Bushwacker or Dervish.

Marauder, Warhammer or Grasshopper are pretty good heavy 'Mechs.

Stalker, Cyclops, Annihilator, Corsair, Fafnir.

Use these (or any other 'Mechs that you like) and you will not be disappointed.

Just concentrate on the game and you will be out of Tier 5 in no time. Posted Image

At the top end, my understanding is that IS very slightly outperforms Clan. IS Tech 2 is excellent. MRMs in particular are really great weapons.

I will contend that it's probably easier to screw up IS Battlemechs in the Mechlab, largely because they are Battlemechs.

IS has very strong mechs. Even more so in the low to mid ranged nascar fights. They have several advantages over clan mechs because of the conditions we fight under most of the time. Clan mechs are very mobile though. Id still give IS mechs the upper hand. The lower laser burn duration or the nature of IS auto cannons are also major advantages. You dont have to stare at the enemy as long and you will thus take much less dmg while dealing all your dmg or most of it.

If the maps were bigger, if speed was more important a factor in terms of reaching objectives and out maneuvering the enemy, if you could actually guerilla slower mechs on giant, open maps with cover and forests and hills to then just run far away....it would be a very different story. Clan mechs would have major advantages such as speed and range. Out running and outranging many IS mechs and loadouts. Thats not the game we play though.
