I've seen more than enough arrogant "Why should I listen to you, you have a lower tier?" themed posts to conclude that it's way past the "overreaction" point.

Weird, I've seen none of those...while I've seen instead lots and lots of people complaining about it. Is PGI deleting those posts or the tinfoil hats are just too fashion to not use it?

I think it's cool for it to be displayed to the specific player, but I don't like the public aspect. If it's private then you can still satisfy the "muh goals" crowd while reducing the level of forum epeening about it.

It definitely demonstrated how the current matchmaker doesn't work well if it's matching based on tiers.

People aren't placed appropriately. A large number of games played with any w/l above 1.2 will put you in tier 1. Meanwhile you have situations like Trev or Siri, where they haven't played that much (still 70+ games which is usually enough for other matchmakers) and have incredibly high w/ls compared to the rest of the population, yet they're tier 3. It's dumb.

Changes pretty quick while you play, though, if you're not placed appropriately yet.

I know mine's been shooting up - I hadn't played a lot of matches since Jan, and seeded in T3. I've had a lovely time with it, too, as games are easier for me now than they were before the change.

But, I'm gaining rating in 9 of 10 matches, so it won't be terribly long until I'm out of T3. Just a matter of time and matches played, really - I only play maybe a dozen matches per week.

It wouldn't make a difference in the opt-in system.

If it were shown privately by design, people would simply be taking pictures, and calling each other out if they photoshopped it.

I mean, that's what would've really ended up happening.

The extent of it would be reduced because it takes more time + effort to take screencaps than it does to click an option in your profile page. Statistically, something that takes a lil bit longer will occur less often.

If Printscreen, cropping, and uploading it to imgur or wherever is hard... then I would like to formally ask for the Nerfinator's job.

Going to the profile page and clicking a line of text is even easier.

To be fair, it doesn't track throughout your lifetime... just a small subsection (you're penalized for having not played beyond this year).

Either way, the system was probably flawed way before Paul said anything in depth.

That's true, but I don't think it should take literally 1,000 games with near perfect w/l and matchscore to place someone appropriately. That's just dumb.

Tier info should be public. I salute you brave tier 5 players who proudly show it off.

Where exactly is all this tier bashing happening? I browse a fair portion of the threads every day and have seen very little if any of it that wasn't outright sarcasm - so sarcastic you could read it.

And yeah people are complaining about the tier system, its not any better and barely different than the elo system except now you can see why you are pulling a team of noobs to drop along side you.

Love the tier system. I tend to run support Mechs/load outs in CW and group drops, so while my tier stays low, skill means I get to shoot up easy xp/CBill fodder in pugs - aye, it's working the way it was intended :)

It doesn't change quickly. There are a few comp players doing 'new player to t1' streams, and once they get past the initial cadet boost into tier 3, hours of playtime don't make much of a difference. I don't think any of them have even gotten to tier 2 yet.

Its just a number.

If someone is oversensitive about it, let them worry. This anguish will fade with time. I'm seeing some of the best matches I've ever seen on MWO when pugging now.

Some are still bad, but the average is MUCH better.

I'm not sure that farming lower tier players and easier c-bills is really a penalty...

You will probably see only a few. But, I was also lucky enough to see a bunch more before the posters deleted them.

You really want to know why everyone is talking about his own tier no matter if t1 or t5? Because it has nothing to do with your actual skill in MWO. The Tier is more like EXP bar but we all know playing many games doesnt make you necessarily a better player.

There are enough multiplayer games out there with a good match making and where your ranking / rating is shown to everyone.

Many people have stated that the Tier1 is a "goal" for them.

If a new player joins MWO and wins their first 30 consecutive matches, then they will not be in Tier 1. Not even Tier 2.

Tier 1 means you have been playing for long time. Nothing else, really. If the law of averages nets you a 50/50 win loss ratio, and you play for a long time, then you are Tier 1. Is that your goal? To get a 50/50 win/loss ratio?

How is that a lofty goal that requires a Tier rating? That's not very impressive.

Oh, I dunno. It's given people something to talk about. Never a bad thing.

I've gone from my seed location under the P in pilot to under the final L in Skill, over maybe 25 matches. That seems pretty quick to me; if I was one of those crazy sorts who played for hours at a time I'd have been in T2 very quickly.

But, as I said, I'm gaining rating in very nearly every single match, win or lose.

The problem I bet your friends are having is that they're playing good mechs. You don't gain rating fast that way. You gain rating fast by abusing the system. Drive a laser vomit/gauss mech is terrible for rating gain, because (if you can aim) you kill with far too little damage done.

Slap on some LRM's, throw em downrange early in the match, *then* go kill people. ++rating in every match.
