Don't spend your cadet bonus on an Orion. Or any cbills from whatever source on an Orion.

Or put it another way: The Orion is end game content - use it to prove you are a better mechwarrior by using inferior equipment. So don't bother.

Or maybe: Read the forums first to see which mechs people complain the most about first. No smoke without fire.

I almost gave up MWO 12 months ago because of that one mistake in first mech selection...

Please keep it constructive - this isn't intended to be a thread to discuss PGI's business strategies or how you feel about past purchases, etc. It's to go back to your day one mech pilot self and give a single piece of advice. Something along the lines of "The heaviest most expensive mech isn't necessarily the best."

So - whatcha got?

I only started a few days ago....

I wish I would have known that most of the money I spent buying and upgrading my first mech wouldn't be given back when I sold it.

Assault mechs are not the best mechs for newbies. I still regret buying all those Highlanders.

When you see a hollow red dorito, it means you can see the target but no one else has targeted it. You should target hollow doritos because it gives your team a better overall picture of where the enemy is located.

Oh, and always look up for UAVs. If you're getting LRMed out of nowhere, look for the UAV.

That pilot name was going to be your username. In my head it was going to be like the multiplayer of 4, where your username was different than your pilot name from Campaign. Would have gone with a lore pilot's name.

LOL! Yeah, probably wouldn't have typed in my real name (my alt account is Graff the Traitor), but over time I've warmed to the idea of Tyler Valentine being in Mechwarrior ;)

That you didn't need to unlock a camo pattern.

For me I think I would have preferred my real name hahaha. This is literally the only place I use Lorian Sunrider so I still have moments where I don't recognize when people are talking to me.

I wish I had bought a light mech in the first place instead of wasting a huge portion of my cadet bonus on a medium mech. Not just because medium mechs are more expensive, but because I needed a faster light mech to learn the game properly, namely how to control my mechs properly because I was so used to other shooter games where your character is 100x more agile.

I did end up using that first medium mech (the TBT-7K) more later on and I did have fun with it, but needing to grind up money to buy an XL engine for my JR7-D was horrendously bad and nearly made me quit the game forever, so if I had started out with the JR7-D it would've been a much better experience for me.

I wish I had known that CW was going to be such a fail, then I wouldnt have created a Clan ans IS account.

My IS account has about 45 mechs in it that I just dont use as splitting my limited gaming time and hence XP and Cbill earnings just didnt make sense.

Now the account sits unused.

I sympathize with CW being bad but you shouldn't have made such a decision for purely role playing reasons.

The ones I have haven't been 'fragile' per say, just poorly designed.

Manufacturing and design flaws in the Corsair cordless have resulted in THREE factory replacements.

For example, the goddamn mic boom gets loose and the mic won't stay in front of your face.

The ear cup assembly pin that holds the cups to the head bar are made of plastic and break making it impossible to wear, and finally the cable attachment where you plug in the USB cable for charging is mounted with the least possible amount of plastic so any stress causes a break which causes erratic charging which eventually results in the unit frying itself.

PLUS, you have to completely disassemble the damn things to replace the rechargeable batteries.

Seriously, WTF were they thinking?

If I'd known what would come of ghost heat and quirks I would have kept my mouth shut and never been a proponent of either.

OH...and what Bishop said about convergence.

Buy Endo, not FF.
Hands down biggest mistake. When they did the dynamic mech portraits it gave me a reason to go through every one of my mechs (over 100) and check them over. I was surprised how many of my older ones had Ferro instead of Endo. I was able to rebuild a few of them

I wish that I had understood early on the vast delta (difference) in skill levels between myself as a new player and those who would be taking me out with an alpha strike on my mech's cockpit as I'm still falling from the drop ship in CW.

There is always a reason for a high price, but that reason doesn't have to be high performance.
The Atlas-K shouldn't be your first mech.

Always remember the game is about teamwork. A team following a bad plan is better than a team with no plan.
