Not backing the game, and sticking to just doing repaints while waiting on greener pastures.

Having very little background in FPS games, I wish I had owned a mouse like my G502 much sooner (I had a naga with like 12 tiny buttons).

DPI down shift has been a huge improvement in my play.

Slow down your mouse. You'll aim better.

Avoid dragon mechs now, their CT hitbox is FAAAAR larger then the black knights so they die super fast.

It's been so damn long since I started playing, but here's a few I remember

Don't just buy the mech variant with the most guns. Check Smurphy / http://mwo.gamepedia.com for mech hardpoints and movements specs before buying stuff.
Sure the stock Stalker-3H has more guns, but the Stalker-3F has better hard points and far better twist.

Stock mech's load-outs are irrelevant.
Do not pilot stock.
The first point of call for any new mech is to strip them and start from scratch.
In general always run max armour. Never run stock armour.

Catapults are always asumed to be lrm boats so non lrm builds are good with lots of torso twisting using those 40 ton missle boxes as 80 ton side torso shields. You can out tank an atlas down to 19% armor.

Team Chevy86: But Endo, not FF

Should say "BUY Endo, not FF." And should say "Ferro-Fibrous Armor," to make it clearer for any newb who may be browsing the forums. ;)

As for myself, I wish I'd known NEVER SELL MECHS! Sure, you can remain a 100% free player by purchasing 3 variants of the same chassis and sell them once you've Elited/Mastered them, then selling them and buying 3 new variants of a different chassis.... But the money lost by selling a mech you've spent C-Bills purchasing and upgrading is such a huge dent in your wallet that you'll be kicking yourself later.

To get the most out of this game, you will HAVE to purchase MC. Wait until there's an MC sale (2-3 times a year) and then wait until Mechbays are on sale (several times a year) and buy up as many mechbays as you can afford. If you've been playing long enough to master 3 mechs, you should consider dropping $15 on some MC for mechbays at least once a year. Trust me!

I tried play for free for quite a while. I think I must have sold about 7 or 8 mechs. Even worse... I've sold mechs that I bought for MC. Don't be as stupid as I was!!!!!!

Don't buy an AS7, don't let nostalgia win.

And then

4v4 wasn't going to be a thing for years (though it will hopefully arrive soonish).

None of my friends want to play it (makes group play rather hard).

Winning Lottery numbers for the last two years (it'd have let me buy all the packs, including a Gold Daishi for my Clan alt).

Upgrading a stock mech takes a lot of c-bills. A LOT.

That MCs are expensive... I used all my founder MC buying cbill version of mechs (I dont think we had heroes at the time anyway). I would save it all for later... :(

Not to be a hero by running out ahead of your team alone to try and score kills like in other FPS.

So much this... I didn't buy mechs, but all the MC I wasted in XP conversions.... It's painful to even think about.

I knew ghost heat was a bad idea (it was why I took a 2 year break) time has not made it any better a decision.

I did not know about quirks until coming back, and they are also an atrocious balancing mechanic.

I would not have gifted Money to friends to enable them to play the game which has brought me nothing but bad air between us...i would not have freinds talked into buying into the Founders Pack for the same reason...i myself would do it (become Founder) again - i get something out off it - but at a way more reasonable expense if i could reverse time...
