I found that the base engine it comes with works fine enough for the most past. I swapped a bit here and there and got a build I've done fairly decently in.
WVR-7D(L)
1AC10 2.5 T of ammo s SRM4 2.5 T of ammo and a single ML, over 600 damage game with it.
Unfortunately not been able to replicate that game again, but most games average out in the 300 damage area for the majority.

I said to heck with it and embraced the thing for what it is......a fast brawler. I kept the MASC, shoved in an XL-350, ignored the right arm, and went with a medium pulse laser, 2 srm-6s with artemis, 4 tons of ammo, and three jumpjets. Its not the hardest hitting brawler I've ever built but its fun to drive at least. Gives me a little of that feel that I get in my beloved Trebuchet 3C "troll bucket" mech with its XL-390.

I'm not greatly keen on this mech - and MASC doesn't give enough of an edge for me at any rate. I tried various configs with Gauss, 2xAC5 etc. and finally settled on AC10, ML, 2SRM6

How are you running that build with no heat sinks?

There are the standard 10 double heatsinks in the engine - 10 being the miminum - so it isn't illegal and I can run it.
Anyway I don't anymore - stripped and forgotten - after I basic'ed it.
I don't remember it being very heat heavy - can't fire the SRM6s that often due to cycle rate. The 10 double heatsinks cope easily enough with the heat generated by this setup.
By and large a very disappointing mech - but very very good as it was "free"!
It'll sit and moulder until I feel the need to play with MASC again

I run the WVR-7d with a LBX10, MG, MPL, SRM4. 2 tons LBX ammo, half ton of AMS, half ton MG, 1 ton of SRM ammo.
I also take the MASC 5x JJ and XL 270 max armor.
it runs really well and the LBX means you can pop out a bit.

Behold the Trolverine, the fire-breathing terror of the Potato Tier!
I'd like to put an LB-10X in it, but I'm just a bit too concerned about pulling my weight.
I bet it'll actually do fine, especially after the SRM buffs go live.

Not going to lie.
The new quirks make this a proper damned Wolverine. Had a blast with my UAC5 and 2 ASRM6 build, got 6 kills in a giant brawl due to MASC being a godsend in this new slower game.

I present the WVR-7D(L), 7 Dakka Lakka:
It's an adaptation of the "Chainsaw" builds on mechs that can pack the UAC5, AC5, and AC2 in all their combined troll-erific, screen-shaking, glory.
This mech, of course, only has 2 ballistic points and limited tonnage. Therefore, with the UAC jam quirk, it keeps the UAC5 and loses the AC5, topping it off with the AC2 for "7" points of "Dakka Lakka." This gives that trolly varying rhythm, and maximum refire rates.
My first trip out yielded over 800 dmg, with zero skill unlocks, so it's at least minimally capable
Drop the MASC for a bigger engine and/or more ammo to suit your preference.
