If the crab is the proper sized medium mech then it means most assaults are WAY too big.

since the crab and atlas are both made of the same components we can assume they have the same relative density. so weight and volume should be directly proportional.

An atlas should only be twice the size of a crab by volume. Not like four times the size lolol.

it's irrelevant

go to the academy training and look at jenner and cicada standing close to each other
they have 5 tons difference and cicada is huge comparing to jenner

mediums are generally oversized, yes

Its not that mediums are oversized centurion, nova etc. etc. etc. yes. But at least not the cicada. Light mechs are smaller than they should be for their tonnage. There is a huge step down in mech size going from 40 tons to 35 tons, but not because the 40 ton mech is incorrectly scaled. I believe its there to help out the light chassis.

It can be argued that medium mechs *should* also fall under the ideal size/tonnage line. But its hard to say that the cicada is too big, simply because the jenner is generously undersized (this coming from a Jenner player)

I find the Crabs fantastic so far. Feels like a mini-EBJ. Great hit boxes. I am used to the low slung weapons now that I just spent 2 weeks mastering BK. Kudo's to PGI!

Out of the box fun.

And perhaps slightly OP.

The first time I ran into one I thought they had glitchy hitboxes because I poured into his face tanking cockpit and didn't do squat. A bit later I realized hr, fps and ping is just screwed up tonight.

Slightly OP 50 ton mech with 5 or 6 energy hardpoints? Don't think so.

It has bad hitboxes, bad overall geometry, low firepower and no serious quirks.

Can we stop complaining about this mech's size ffs?

Does it really need to be sub-basement level bad instead of the mediocre mech that it is?

A mech's size should never be made small for balance reasons. Size should simply be correct.

From what I've seen before being able to load the game yet, the scale actually seems spot on for how long, front to back it is.

More medium mechs should aspire to be about that size actually, not the other way around.

It's not too small, other mechs are too big, dont nerf the good mech to compensate for the others badness, fix their problems first.

You mean aside from the fact that most Mediums are too damn big to begin with and is a detriment to almost the entire class of mechs?

Or how we have years of mechs with oversized hitboxes or bad geometry being consistently bad?

Mech size is a balance issue, and the crab isn't too small. It's fine.

Is anyone actually having trouble hitting this?

Seriously, the Crab is fine. Hunchback is fine. Enforcer is fine.

Centurion, Trebuchet and Nova are NOT (Neither is the Vindicator). Re-scale those and then it's fine.

Well there is the point of argument, i saw one right next to a raven and it was just as tall, and it was really smaller than my cicada. Actually when i was engaging another from far away i felt like fighting against a firestarter siluette. Seriously was it so hard to make it a bit bigger? I understand it has dragon level protrusion but that rarely matters unless you flank the guy. Discuss

No, it's not.

The crab has a bowed chassis, such as the stalker, in fact its profile is very long.
Crab needs to be hard to hit and tanky, because the lack of hardpoints and low hardpoint location (compared to the 4P) would make this mech too much bad.

I agree with this general sentiment. All mechs should simply be the correct size (specifically: volume) for the tonnage. Using scaling as a balancing tool would be seriously contrived, and other avenues should be sought.

Unfortunately, as much attention as has been placed on a few over-sized mechs (which with the exception of Catapult and Nova aren't even that bad), some of the worst offenders are actually those ridiculously undersized lights (I'm talking to you, Spider).

I'm not convinced that the Crab is undersized to any significant degree, though. It's just crouched into a really compact package, making it a smaller target. This is obviously an inherent advantage, of course -- if you start to think about it (and you shouldn't), having your mech stand upright while under fire was always a goofy idea, and a big part of why we'll never have real mechs.

I agree. Its definitely a small mech

The 50 ton mech is quite a bit smaller than the 45 ton Shadow Cat

And we still don`t have proper volumn chart.

We all know Crab will not be resized, even though it's shorter than a Cicada.
All the other medium mechs will not be resized as well, since it's a lot of work and no profit for PGI.

If we assume that most mechs have similar average density we should be comparing volume, not just dimensions.

Scale of the Vindicator and Crab seem to be sized with the post clan launch priced in. With the Crab though it seems way overdone. Even considering the Crab has a nosecone its still pretty small. Older content like the Centurion will probably never be reworked to reflect the current landscape.
