Most "black knights" I see on the forums seem to have all this bitterness and resentment towards the game because they bought a founder's package and don't feel as if they ever got their money's worth.

I think you've got that wrong to be honest. I've never seen anyone say that personally, and I'm always lurking on the forum. It isn't about value for money.

I would say that the people who began to hate MWO felt that way because this is the only Battletech game, and PGI made it a disappointingly bad minimally viable arena shooter. They probably would have just moved on if PGI hadn't closed down MWLL to get rid of the competition. The biggest Battletech fans were then forced to either play this game or nothing, unless you count very old games, so they hung around complaining.

The only thing it has to do with founders is the fact that the biggest fans who were most disappointed were obviously also the most likely to back anything Battletech and buy founders packs.

i am with bandito in that i am a balance knight

i believe in making all weapons if not equally effective then make them roughly equally effective. and this means ERPPC should travel fast for the heat, and SRM should do more dmg than they do now for having the heaviest penalties of all weapons.

i believe in making all chassis if not equally effective, then making them roughly equally effective, like it is balanced in good games by other companies; any number of good examples where most of the choices have advantages and caveats you know actual choices, no magic win buttons, NO crutches; you can't have any sort of ranking with crutches;
i didn't have to come up with a new meme but i think this is what is going on in this community

Posted Image

and i also believe that these players have managed to sell their dimestore philosophy as to why you should feel accomplishment by winning a game that you play for fun; in such a meaningless way.

balance can't come fast enough imo. but not what they did in the pts server. something at least better than what we have now.

i believe psr should only be ranked solo, as well

I never played MWLL much - i did start to play on a regular basis with the announcement of MWO.
MWLL was a exiting game - some issues but MWO was much better - i became a founder after i have played several hours MWO and thought the game is better than MWLL. Considering that MWO was just at the beginning.

But than something did go sideways - and as you said the year 2013 i spend in hate and bitterness - but I'm still there and still enjoy playing MWO - although the good fights are lobby only

I'm a space-poor knight, made into this by the Paulconomy™ which made me become a bored knight as it takes forever to get those darn 3 variants of the same mech. And consequently it's turned me into the barely participating knight. Working as intended?

I'm a Gray Jedi, like Qui Gon Jin. And you padawans have much to learn.

I'm also a level 60 Paladin in World of Warcraft.

It's hard to discuss this matter seriously, because there's like 30 people posting regularly on the forum. Any statement you make about white knights and black knights is going to be taken personally by people you've interacted with. And I really don't want to single out anyone or make veiled references about specific people, so suffice it to say that, in fact, you're all morons and your arguments are invalid.

We must be reading different forums then because I've lost count of how many posts that were some variation of "PGI is never getting another dime of my money ever again" from a founder. It was the mention of money that led me to that conclusion.

I would say that the people who began to hate MWO felt that way because this is the only Battletech game, and PGI made it a disappointingly bad minimally viable arena shooter.

Considering that all of the past MechWarrior games had a single player mode that simply dropped you from mission map to mission map (read: arena) and a multiplayer that was more or less an arena to shoot each other in, what else did you expect?

They probably would have just moved on if PGI hadn't closed down MWLL to get rid of the competition.

PGI or Microsoft shut them down?

Which makes the amount of butthurt expressed in some of those posts all the more mystifying considering there's a community of MechWarrior fans that coordinate with each other to meet and play older versions of the game, and an online tabletop BattleTech simulator. I can understand constructive criticism, and I encourage that. But by "butthurt" I mean a lot of people are content to just sit around and fling personal insults at the devs and anybody who actually likes the game.

Well then I'm very sorry for your loss. But as a long time BattleTech fan who played the original tabletop game, all I can say is that a healthy amount of skeptism in anything you're about to commit yourself to will lead to a happier life.

Depends on whether PGI are actually working on improving the game, or just adding mechs to the game at any given time.

protip: at the moment they are just adding mechs.

"... at the moment"? They're doing that way too often.

Ok, excuse the format I'm on a mobile.

1) Threatening PGI financially in the vain hope of influencing them isn't really the same as the whole thing being about value for a few dollars of backing money.

2) A good arena shooter.

3) PGI

4) I'm not defending the bile-spewing obsessives. If you notice, I'm still here trying to make the best of what we have.

5) See 4. I'm extremely skeptical and I regret nothing. This game could be much better, but I'm happy I backed it.

now, if making new mechs while foregoing actually changing the way the game plays can be considered a form of shovel ware
then what kind of a knight would the developers be?

Spoiler

I'm a properly sanctioned "good" necromancer, of course. Due to a lack of undead in these parts, I battle the forces of ignorance, of which there are an abundance. ;)

Due to my criticism, probably on the darker end of things.

PGI occasionally does something positive, but few and far between. I can acknowledge them from time to time.
