I just played an assault match (very close game) in which all mechs were almost dead, and the one I was spectating was out of ammo, and asked to cap. Unfortunately, said pilot did not know where to go to cap, nor even HOW to capture the base.

Now I am sure the pilot above is new, and unfamiliar with how to play, so no shame to him, but boy was it humbling sign of how low my tier is...

Anyone else with similar type of revelations willing to share in the shame??

New pilots tend to be Tier 4. All tier 5 pilots you would see would be light pilots with sub-standard speed, 1 ton ammo ballistic boaters, and one jumpjet mechs.

I know how you feel.. piloted a scout for a year... and with the new rating system that just means I don't have much of a damage/match or kill/death ratio...
Means I get stuck with team killing disco shooting "what does the R button do?" types..

Change fighting style and aim for those high damage scores.. it's why nobody pilots scouts any more.. it's all FS9 and ACH kill stealers...

If you see lrms you're in a low tier. If you look around a corner and your fresh mech ct turns red with one hit you're in a high tier.

No need for new players learning bad experiences, at least tier 2/3 pilots can teach the new players.

Been seeing a wide range of team behaviors lately.

One match My mech was instantly destroyed as I passed from one point of cover to another by something under ECM or parked on another continent with absurd ability to aim and hit precisley the one spot that would have instant killed my mech (side torso rear XL engine death) kinda tier 5 stuff

On another match I stroll up behind a Direwolf and Kingcrab in my Huggin and they both just let me kill them with free easy to make back shots on stationary 100 tonners. Super noobish

Another match I take my Huggin behind enemy lines again and find the perfect spot for a UAV unfortunatley I get spotted by the worst possible mech to be spotted by (streak boat Skillcrow) so make a run back to my lines by as short a route as possible.I carefully select my angel of approach to not cross friendly fire lanes (I look at my mini map on the HUD) confident that my UAV is broadcasting clearly I crest a rise and have a friendly Zeus pivot track and blow the leg off my Huggin. Apparently the "R" key is lost tech along with looking at your HUD for happy and friendly blue triangles before you open fire. But on the other hand he did hit me as I crested and leap past at 140 KPH so it was a good shot :P

These were all solo queue matches BTW

So I'm in my LRM mech right, solo dropping, doing the pug thing. I see this GoldenBoy start to cross the river on River City. I'm in a LRM 60 WHK, and I'm peppering him with some chain fire to keep him humble, and he just decides enough is enough, and starts to cross the river towards me.

Bad idea. I switch to alphastriking, and after 3 volleys he's down. No twisting, no moving to the rocks to leap frog across for cover, just face tanks a LRM 60 in the open and makes sure none of those missiles hit the ground.

That was my "confirmed not teir 1" moment. Now when I get a kill I know I'm in a 2-5 game, and when I'm 1000 missiles into my payload and haven't killed anyone, I'm in a 1-3 game. When I start to roll steady kills every game in a LRM boat, I figure I made it down to T4 land.

I have no idea which tier Kisumi Kitsune is, but I was on his team and saw the guy piloting a Cicada and dying within a second upon making contact with the enemy. I doubt he had the chance to twist. :P

Yes. Skirmish on Tourmaline. It's 11-11. Our stalker vs their cicada.

We are all "Dude you got this. Light him up!'

And he switches to 3rd person view....

The cicada won, and I spent the next hour in the Training Grounds :)

what's wrong with 1 jump jet mechs... it's one of the best ways to use jump jets, to climb hills etc minor obstacles

'r' doesn't work on friendly mechs, but friendly mechs always have a blue dorito above them

a recent game, i burned an enemy light at enemy's flank and moved to flank the enemy (umm, a weird phrase w/e), i shot a ghr at the side... it didn't turn to me shooting somebody afar, i shot again, it didn't turn again, i shot again and killed it, then i ran to the belly of enemy's team and shot a griffin into the back... it didn't turn and still was running to my team. i shot it again, it didn't turn. i shot it again and killed... here i got sad about my tier.... -_- then our teams met and the fight turned into a whirlpool of mechs, i burned some other mechs, they tried to turn to me and to resist but it was too late when they were hard pushed

Sorry, I can't really comment on my tier. I'm still recovering from being blinded by all the laser alphas.

You know you are in the Tier 5, when you see Thunder Child on or against your team.

Take your pick... the Underhive or the top of Mt. Tryhard. At least if you're Tier 5 you don't have to deal with both.

You know you're Tier 3 when one match you see derps running trash configs and playing bumper cars with each other, and the very next match you get your face melted off in a second flat the first time you peek over a hill. Thanks PGI!

That they are smart enough to use the best overall camo for maximum performance? Wasn't the first time I fought an enemy, chased him over a hill and fought him again, only to realize that it was a different pilot in the same chassis.

I also tend to use default camo whenever there is a Challenge or Tourney.

You know it is T5 when the Dire Wolf on your team announces he is going to cap and actually says on comms, " I am going to rush their base".

Dude....Dire Wolves do not rush anywhere......ever.
