What exactly do they expect? To fix the world? This is the internet, and this is a PvP game. Excessive abusive lanuage and dircted insults, chating, unfair behaviour, teamkilling, voip abuse, cheating - all reasons for a ban or at lesat a warning. What I read there is nothing like that. I decided to file a ticket for their actions.

actually I don't care enough.
For me, a bit of pregame trollchat belongs to the game. And if that offends people they just should turn global chat off.

I mean, what are we, grown men? 12? steam punks?

Thus the need to have someone watch the watchers.

Yes

My roomate and some friends I used to play Fifa Soccer, Mortal Kombat and NHL on our PS3. Also pool at the bar.

The sh*ttalking was an integral part of the experience and here is no different.
Actually there is one major difference here and that is if the sh*ttalk offends your delicate sensibilities you can actually just turn it off, by muting the individual or the whole chat. I see no reason for reports for chat when there is a block option.

I can see reports for cheating suspicion, intentional and repeated TKing, griefing behaviours like that. But there is no need for chat reporting.

627 you shouldn't be discussing disciplinary actions, as it violates the ToS. Your post has now been removed.

Yet that wasn't the issue. The issue was that 627 was being non-constructive/spamming/flooding the chat.

I find your rules non constructive. Constructiveness is subjective and noone should give a damn what happens in chat. Chat is the fightclub of social interaction.

Oh and we discuss what we want. I don't know about you but I was under the impression even canada was a free country.

While I totally agree with the sentiment this is technically PGI's forum and they define the ToS here

If that was all 627 wrote, then "flood" and "spam" are not the words I would use. They're not even close. Some were even related to MWO if not necessarily the match.

As for "forcing the issue", the point is to make the support team aware so that everyone will be on the same page, and not just confine it to a single person. "Consistency" is the idea I'm driving at. There are already quite a few examples of moderators publicly taking opposite views on the same issue.

Well PGI seems to have enough players to drive everyone that takes this game somewhat serious away. Oh wait, no they don't.

I am sitting here right now and am not sure what to do or to think. This is unacceptable to me and I have the feeling this game now has become the china of the internet. People didn't like the comparison before a while ago but on a different topic... Thats what I really feel like right now... Dictatorship where the individual rights don't matter....

I think there were mistakes made in the ToS and now we get to feel them.

I've no idea of what P.G.I considers non constructive, but its very P.G.I

its typically so broad even giving a salute to the other team could be reported as unconstructive, as while its polite, its not constructive. Just so bland, and it can't mean profanity or verbal abuse as they have their own section

Hopefully low.

The goal here is for PGI to make money, They don't care about people insulting each other, what they care about is people quitting the game over it (both the offended and the offender, and the general reputation of the game), so they won't be looking to sanction people unless they have to (think hate speech, real world threats, terminal spamming). They will also have some kind of review process, encase they get things wrong (although it's important to remember that every single banning or muting in gaming history has been done wrong and the person totally did nothing wrong at all, honest gov), because it allows people a second chance.

Well that's the theory and the industry standard anyway, so only time will tell. The main thing to remember is that it's all about money, so if they get it wrong they will be looking to fix it real quick.

It's also worth taking this as a wonderful opportunity for people to go "oooh, maybe there is another person at the end of the screen" and not throw abuse around as freely on the pure grounds that it makes the game a nicer place, or drop with people who have a similar feels calibration.

1 - you don't not talk about fight club
2 - Chat is not a Fightclub, and people do care about what happens in chat because it can get really dull to have it filled up with abuse when you're trying to play a game. It is actually possible to go 15 minutes without questioning everyone's parentage.
3 - Canada is a free country, which means PGI are free to have their game operate however they want. Also please stop contusing meaningful freedom of speech with your apparent obsessive wise to be able to offend and upset whoever you want: even countries with incredibly liberal free speech clauses say you can't run up to people in the street and start yelling at them so the idea of total free speech doesn't really exist. Maybe try and be social and considerate rather than a junior socio-path?

Hey I'm famous now!

To be true, everyone loses their minds about it for no reason. I don't even care actually.

I tried to be less nonconstructive today... guess what, wasn't fun. And I lost every. single. game. today with 2 exceptions.

And everyone and his mom trollchatted the hell out of it. And I'm sitting here, trying to not get reported again because I want to be a good and constructive member of this community.

The game is less fun without poking a bit in chat. If this is now a tryhard game, ultra competitive and all this, and if I am not allowed to joke around anymore, I won't be around anymore. It is that simple. I'm the last one of my friends who plays this game, I get mocked up because I still play this game and now the last bit of fun is taken away from me here...

okay, maybe I do not don't care. Or the jagermeister in my brain says I should stop typing.

however we have a saying in germany, don't make an elefant out of a mosquito, I think it's something about a mountain out of a molehill in english or so...

If you think I'm taking opposite views, I'm not. I'm just stating which was given and what wasn't.

However, I don't do the in-game reports, so whatever happened in there, happens.

Yet I still disagree with you on the terms used. There was more than just that, 627 used this sentence twice in-game, with the same characters and all.

The thing is, someone saw that you typed in spam and/or the same phrase, and took offense to you doing it every match as a possibility.

Just type in something different instead of the same thing. Remember how in high school that one funny phrase becomes old? This is one of them.

Ok, let me explain.
  • hey now i can report everyone who is not trollchatting for being unconstructive!
Yes I posted this multiple times, I just copypasted it to start a chat pregame. And I won't argue that this is unconstructive at all. Or not funny.

  • 788967fhjndghfj
this was, indeed, my cat that just ran over my lap (where my keyboard is, I sit in a gaming chair in the living room). And if you look at the whole quote, I tried to explain that (after I died).

Actually I'm fine.
I trolled around, I got reported, I got a warning and everything is good. I don't even want to argue against it. It's just a bit sad.

It is moreover what you said about reporting everyone, I don't think the people you were took that as a joke.

I understand the 2nd quote, but probably people didn't take it kindly after the first thing about what I said in the sentence above.

You're either going to have to let people know why you remove their content or accept it being reposted at least once while they figure it out on their own.

You shouldn't have to figure it out on your own since you should have read the CoC when you first signed up, as well as that I told 627 before you not to post disciplinary actions between him and the GM.

From the Code of Conduct:

DISCUSSING DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

This category includes:

Creating posts or threads to discuss disciplinary actions taken against a player, including chat logs and email correspondence between a player and a Game Master (GM)
Creating posts or threads to discuss disciplinary actions taken against a character or account on the forums
If a player is found to have participated in such actions, he/she will:

Be given a temporary ban from the forums, depending upon severity

Mistakes happen. I misinterpreted the tone of this thread as it seems the very nature of it is to complain about this feature. Either way, my only point was that a message that would have taken you five seconds to write privately or post publicly would have had me respond with "no problem" and it would have been the end of the conversation. Altering peoples' content without informing them is simply asking them to repeat the offense.
