Would you care to explain what "production cluster" means?

It is the hardware that will run the game... consisting of several servers that share the work of keeping track of everything.

So far they have been running the beta on the server (group of servers/cluster) at their studio for development. The production cluster is a another server cluster to handle the much much bigger load of the future released game community.

Anyone know (have they said?) what the makeup of their current beta cluster is?

Probably referring to the collection of servers that run in tandem to deal with the load of all the clients. This kind of configuration is also effective for redundancy, so if one server dies, we keep playin!

:D

Any idea if the production cluster is in the same location as the beta server or in the same location as their website servers? Ping from europe would be much better if it was to the webserver in california than to their studio's gameserver .

I'm doing an educated guess here.. IIRC the production system is hosted by a hosting company that will probably have better connection to handle a game than the development studio. So I'd guess its going to be a better ping..
But how do you know about gameserver ping anyways? :D

There are many different types of cluster configurations, here's hoping they eventually spread the love with multiple nodes across the continent(s) for better network access by clients.
