It would be fantastic if we had a setting specific to mech detail and texture, without environment. I don't care that much about the trees and bushes, but I need to see muh beautiful, beautiful mechs.

Seriously, I can't fap to trees.

I think it's pretty sad that low settings make the game easier, needs sorting out so that high or low the playing field is equal minus a bit of fluff for the high graphic people

I have a much bigger issue with the fact that trees and other plants doesn't block the sensors ability to discover you. If that would work, it would be ok. But now everyone can see you through the trees... As long as you don't have ecm. And that makes ecm mechs even more powerful on these kind of maps. If you have ecm, no one can see you, not even with heat vision or night vision behind a tree, but you can spot others and shoot throug trees. Lol!

I'm wondering what views you guys have on visibility on maps. Both in terms of different vision modes (normal, heat, nightvision) and foliage that blocks line of sight without actually blocking weapon fire.

A lot of people seem unhappy with Forest Colony because of the trees, and unhappy with Caustic because it has pretty poor visibility in all three vision modes. On many maps, I find myself constantly swapping between different vision modes in the middle of the action. That's not really one of the entertaining elements of MWO for me. It's not like real life, where you can actually adjust night vision or heat vision for the situation at hand. In real life, it's not like heat vision (IR / Thermal) is useless in the desert, because everything is so hot.

I don't know if this is a universal factor in all PVP games with forest / jungle maps, but it's a shame that many MWO players are running graphics on 'low' because it offers so much better visibility.

What are your preferences and what's your solution to the visibility problem? Should PGI take a different approach with new maps, or should they focus on aesthetics and realism first and just accept that tryhards gonna tryhard?

I'm sorry I just don't see the problem, besides I like the fact that I can use the less visibility in some areas to gain some sort of advantage to all the laser vomit we've been seeing lately. All the problems this game has and visibility is an issue. Has anyone ever played an atmospheric game.

Less is more...

More often than not a few really well designed highly optimised and beautifully implemented effects outperform attempts to throw lots of crap in to make up for innovation.

Viridian Bog is horrendous as far as clutter. I was so excited when it finally came out...our first Jungle Map I was thinking. But now I hate it when it comes up. They need to remove about 50% of the stuff there and it would be a good map.

Don't have any issues with Forest Colony or River City...Caustic is ok since you can use Night or Thermal. LOVE the orange sunset...gorgeous.

I find that I am often shooting nearly blind even in close quarters because the game is so dark. I can fix it by hitting thermal or night vision on but I shouldn't have to do that during daylight hours on any map. I suppose I should just turn my gamma right up but the way game looks in some of the maps is spot on. It's mostly the somewhat newer maps where I run into this problem.
I can honestly see mechs better in frozen city snowstorm than I can in River city most of the time.

Playing on low settings and removing 'environmental challenges' does not foster the development of skill.

Prefer the game to be more visually appealing and challenging with cover.. ..less easy mode.

The problem is that the person running with low graphic options and high gamma can probably see you while you think you're being sneaky and hiding.

Very high graphics?!

HAHAHHAHAHAH

YEAH RIGHT

Maybe for people using a ******* SUPERCOMPUTER

Or a computer which was pretty good 2 years ago. This game is not really that demanding to run on highest settings.

fog has always been a cheap go to for game developers looking to improve performance. you can use it to hide more aggressive lod usage at range. this lets you cram in up close detail. so i can totally see why so many of the newer maps are foggy.

of course you know its bad when you got a beautiful map and then have to hit h to see anything in broad daylight. there are a lot of maps where none of the view modes give you good vision. i think all the view modes need a rework pass.
