Just finished my cadet rounds, which means I can post outside of "New Player Help," and I'm sporting my shiny new "Knight Errant" title

After my first 25 matches, I've got 3 fully-upgraded Panthers. I've got 1 XL235 engine to share between them, 3,705,655 c-bills in the bank, and 1901 GXP.

9R has 13 matches, 532 unassigned XP and only needs the Arm Reflex skill to complete basics.
8Z has 11 matches, needs the twist and arm skills, and has 1476 unassigned XP.
10K has 1 match, 700 XP, and no skill unlocks.

I'm pretty happy with my progress

I've got limited gaming time this weekend, so we'll see how much I'm able to make of the challenge weekend.

OH! I almost forgot. I won a 500 MC gift code. The responsible thing to do would have been to save it for mechbays. The fun thing to do was to purchase my namesake color, and paint all my Panthers Amaranth. Fun won

So, I've never done this on my main account.

Apparently, you can carry too hard. (Edit: this was my 2LPL, XL250 8Z)

I incessantly poked and aggro'd my way around the corner on Canyon in a Domination match. We were down 6-8, and we'd been whittling them down. I had 4 of the 6 kills to that point. I checked the score, and decided it was time to let the throttle out.

I'd buried a Battlemaster, Gauss Bounty Hunter, Shadow Cat, and Cheetah to that point. I charged down the outer canyon, and chewed through an Orion IIC who overheated looking the wrong way. Johnny Five achievement pops up. Hoo boy. I got up top, and they were counting down in the circle.

Couple shots on a Raven 3L, CT, done. Hunchie 4SP, RT open. Focused the component, still up. Another Marauder, legged, right leg bright red-orange. Pot-shotted the right leg a couple times from the opposite side of the ramp, then ducked my way to the platform, popped up on the run, and slowed to focus down that leg. Down.

Last mech, the Hunchie. I was too focused to know where my last two teammates were. (Don't try this at home, kids. Too much blood lust.)

Now it was the Hunchies turn. We chased each other around the platform and the ramps, trading shots. I actually overheated on the ramp, but whatever was going on, he couldn't finish me off. I was taking fire as I overrode the heat shutdown and got moving again, pouring more fire into that stubborn Hunchie, and staying on the move to keep him from landing a clean shot on my open components.

FINALLY, I shaved down the last of his CT. I also promptly died to overheat damage to my left torso, a tick later. Yep, I closed the match, and died immediately after doing so.

Wow. 626 matchscore. 8 kills, 1 assist, 3 KMDD, 3 Solos, 18 components, 926 dmg.

First time for everything. That was my first kill frenzy carry in a match, and it had me laughing like a silly fool.

It's a "What Mech" Moment

Edit: it was also the last match I needed to complete the basic skills on this variant. Woot!

Had a pilot complement me on my shooting and spotting, and say "Now I want to try a Panther," after watching me run around Canyon again. This time I was using PPCs while hunting down the last enemy mechs with teammates.

If I'm having enough fun with it (and apparently playing well enough too) that someone's inspired to try it for themselves, then I'm doing it right

And fun is why we do this right? In addition to challenge and other good stuff that is?

I was only in that match because I tried for like 5 or 6 games to get my final KMDD for the Surat warhorn. Got 3. And the complement that was worth way more. Great note on which to end the night.

Pardon the double-post:

Double XP weekend this weekend!

April 15-19, get double XP for every match. Maybe a nice weekend for you to work on your T-bolts, Bishop?

I'm only through basics on my Panthers, so if I can get them through Elites, it'll be a nice performance boost for when I'm grinding for my second chassis

New Week, New Contract! We are now in the employ of House Kurita. Had a bit of trouble negotiating with DCMS dept of Mercenary Affairs. Sorry to say the snakes still have a low opinion of us dirty money soldiers. BTW do not refer to our employers or any DCMS as snakes or for that matter do not use the word snakes for the duration of our contract. As always when dealing with the DCMS we will be following the contract to the letter. Expect to be used as expendable troops in high danger Clan areas for the duration of this contract. The Coordinator wishes each and everyone of us a useful and honorable death....

I'd better keep banking c-bills. If I have an assault in round 2, it's gonna require some grinding. Better to be ahead when I arrive

12 million or so seems like a minimum starting sum for the Atlas/Banshee/Victor if I get one of them, and it's a great lead on anything else.

New patch notes regarding units and Faction Warfare

It appears we will now need to use unit coffers to invite new members to the Challenge. Anyone willing to make a donation, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, since the new scouting mode is part of FW you will be allowed to use a trial mech to participate in this mode if you do not have any light or medium mechs as one of your challenge mechs.

I'd suggest we go merc for a while, until we see how faction loyalties work out.

3 ranks there in the merc table is equivalent to 6 in a faction, which isnpretty achievable.

We can spend a little while chewing on that while we observe how the loyalty system meta settles in.

I'm gonna try doing scouting missions to accellerate the loyalist probation period with shorter and more frequent matches (on this account, my primary). Speed Probation™

Yeah, I think we be mercs and whoever is paying the best, that is where we go. All contracts are 7 days now, but some of the houses will be paying better bonuses than others. Unless there is a reason to keep cycling through different factions that I am not aware of.

Just the mechbays available at the lower ranks. There's been a shortage of freebjes in events lately. Merc lyfe has plenty going on for now though

have to see how this shakes out. looks like our bonding agent maybe taking a bit more time to sort through contracts. as all contracts are for 7 days only I might have to just see who is paying the best, if the contracts are flat it might be a few days to snag a good one.

i see Liao is paying a 50% bonus right now. might be our ride to test the waters.

i don't see this unit being loyalist any time soon. at least until a good percentage of us have earned Merc rank 5 or higher then we may do some house jumping but more on a month to month thing, the house rewards thru rank 6 look inviting and attainable. ie more MECH BAYS. even with the desertion penalty. but that is going to be more of a long time planing thing.

for now i agree we should just wait and see.

when i get a chance i will check out the stuff.

i did check on the invite bit and right now we have 39 members so an invite costs 1,950,000 cbills. i will throw this out there for any active members. if we all throw 2mil cbills in the pot and then we ask any new recruits to reimburse the cost of their recruitment once they master their first set of mechs we should be able to maintain a good pot of cbills to keep the unit afloat. i don't see us holding any planets and needing upgrades but you never know. right now we just need a few cbills to afford recruitment costs
