New Week Same old Contract Strike that we have a New Contract! with House Marik. 10% more bonus is 10% more bonus. besides I was hearing rumors of a mutiny if you guys had to drink any more Saki. Get out the Whisky glasses boys we are inbound for the Free World League..

I'm actually going to try that, with the Bonus Challenge of the 3025 Stock Mech - SHD-2H.
Should take a month, give or take, to get the 100 matches; let's see if I can earn the title...
No modules or any alterations to its loadout, including the armour. At least, I'm still T3...

Getting ready to knock down Clan #2 on my "loyalty" tour.

I've completed all levels of challenges (Stock wasn't successful, but it's complete), and I'm considering what I want to do while finishing my last 2 clans before I re-enter merc life with the unit.

I'm considering Enforcers so I have nice flexibility in my I.S. dropdecks, weight-wise. Part of me wants to hold out for a sale so I can pick up some heavyweight ClanTech. Another part of me acknowledges that the [(WM)] unit is probably going to stay on I.S. contracts.

Hmmmmmmm ...

Three quarters through the Stock Dragon challenge and the stats have slipped a bit.

33 & 42 Win/Loss for 0.79, and a similar 27 & 51 : 0.53 K/D. I don't imagine i'll manage any better, but it's still a twisted sort of fun to play and 25 more won't be too onerous.


The first Victor is out of the gate and basic'd. The assault playstyle will take a bit more getting used too; fortunately Atlas-grade armour papers over some of the cracks!

I had a nasty losing streak at about the halfway mark that had a similar effect on my stock DRG-1N numbers. I feel you what-mech-bro. I also felt a similar "twisted" fun running that funky stock build.

Victors you say? Which one did you start with? I found a brawly SRMs+AC20 VTR-9S to be quite nicely effective even with a standard engine, so long as I'm patient enough to not lose my armor to early pokes and LRMs.

Dat mechbay tho. I bet the Banshee grand prize will provide a nice chunk of change for those of us who can't use it. I can make good use of that mechbay for sure.

One of many nice things about this challenge is that it makes decisions like this easy.

Banshee simply wasn't in my challenge parameters.

This leaves me with a fully-functional IS deck that will include my Original Challenge Mech at any deck weight.

I also have a technically-compliant ClanTech Deck, though it relies heavily on sniping: 3 SHCs and a Jenner IIC variant checks in at 170 tons. Usually, I still lose mechs to trading attrition at about the same rate as the rest of my team. Occasionally, I lose them faster because they've simply got less armor and no amount of range-gaming will help during the close-in fighting required with certain maps and strats. Once so far, an odd combo of factors results in the first ECM sniper lasting a long time because it's avoiding detection and getting lots of shots.

Please note: teammates may be salty if you're the last one up, still on your first mech, regardless of how much damage or how many kills you have at that point.

Also note: if you are the salty teammate reading this, I do apologize for the offense. I prioritized dishing out damage (and admittedly too few kills) for grinding loyalty points (because mechbays), ahead of tossing mechs into the buzz saw alongside you. To say I'm ambivalent (like conflicted) would be accurate. I've never been practically ignored quite like that in a match, since I started playing the game in April 2014.

Here's what that looked like. The first mech was 1437 damage on a 3xCERLL Shadow Cat. The others got a few shots and artys in while getting drop-zone farmed.

Until the 30th or 40th-something matches done, I had a positive score on both W/L and K/D, but then it went tumbling down.
On a brighter note, it actually felt really great to play the Shawk-2H stock. Even though I kept occasionally playing it like it had a "meta" loadout, I then remembered it didn't and that I'd be better off winging the Assaults. It felt good, playing the 2H like it was meant to be in Battletech instead of MWO-wise... Also, the mech proved to be sturdier than I thought it would without redistributing the armor.

Ah well. Next up, I'll start grinding in FP to get two mechbays (maybe only 1, if I can get the Grand Prize (though it's too bad one can't keep the Banshee Champion)) and get 3 Enforcers for the Bonus Challenge #4. But that will take a while yet to get to. Gotta go back to main account for the event.

I've opened with a 9S - tried a terrible double-AC5 build of mine, then switched to Baradul's "midrange" AC10 / LPLs / SRMs one (minus a couple engine ratings, plus AMS.)

Since the loot bags helped me acquire C-Bills, it's been joined by a 9K running Gauss & PPCs. I plan to do the full brawl loadout on a 9B to round them out when my wallet's recharged.
