Ehhh~ you're right and you're wrong.

If you want to be a true pro gamer, this is the wrong game.

Good read, and true.

Speaking as a former semi-pro for SF2 (early to mid 90s) it's sad to see the Street Fighter crowd fall into this, though it was always the case to a degree (and exacerbated by limited options, thought SF2C/T added a bit). Just was a time (way back when) where the most celebrated Street Fighters were the guys who showed up at Regionals, etc, and wrecked face with Dhalsim or other "non-meta" Characters.

Sadly, the "I'm the best, and to prove it, I will handicap myself and still kick the crap out of you" mentality has apparently died.

Now people cry to have any realism and difficulty elements removed, game the settings to get an edge and run the same boring vanilla builds to the same boring results (for the most part). There are exceptions, but it's pretty rare...and instead of celebrated, it is almost derided in the comp crowds it seems these days.

But then, as you noted, this is not a real comp/pro game, by any stretch, either. And it won't be, as long as it has such meta extremes.

You are one of the few who actually notices this.

I didnt bother replying to this thread anymore since most people didnt want to acknowlegde or even see the gap between weapons and thus why we have this meta laying around. There's reason why everyone crams the same loadouts with certain weapons on it.

The main problem with this game is the huge gap between weapons.

But some of these people won't get it, does not matter how many times you tell them.

It would be different of the gap was smaller and there was still meta. Then things of 'meta' *complaints* would be different.

Heh, I'm still trying to do that...with mixed results.
But nothing beats the feeling of being top rank in a match, without basic skills, DHS and in a non meta mech and loadout.

Every one of us have the same options to play whatever you think is the best. Why some people deliberately choose to play a bad build or playstyle and then whine that it is bad is beyond me.

yes and if everyone of us would do the same thing over and over again like a stupid robot assembley thats fine?
No sry we want balance because balance is variety and variety keeps things fun.
When a game gets boring, players leave. Simple as that, and when you have fun acting like a assambley line worker all day because of the meta, Nice for you, but I prefer fun and diversity than half brain monotony.
Yeah fun is subjective, but statistcs over and over above many games have shown that the top competitive gamers are NOT the main playerbase of games. And when a game wants to keep alive, especially Online gams with high running costs then they need to ensure FUN for most of their customers.

The meta does not change THAT often at all, at least not often enough to keep the game interesting.

Now go and play your monotonoymetawarrior it's sooooo exciting that I can not even hit the MWO.exe anymore ony my PC by the shackyness of my hands.
