Ehhh~ you're right and you're wrong.
If you want to be a true pro gamer, this is the wrong game.
Good read, and true.
Speaking as a former semi-pro for SF2 (early to mid 90s) it's sad to see the Street Fighter crowd fall into this, though it was always the case to a degree (and exacerbated by limited options, thought SF2C/T added a bit). Just was a time (way back when) where the most celebrated Street Fighters were the guys who showed up at Regionals, etc, and wrecked face with Dhalsim or other "non-meta" Characters.
Sadly, the "I'm the best, and to prove it, I will handicap myself and still kick the crap out of you" mentality has apparently died.
Now people cry to have any realism and difficulty elements removed, game the settings to get an edge and run the same boring vanilla builds to the same boring results (for the most part). There are exceptions, but it's pretty rare...and instead of celebrated, it is almost derided in the comp crowds it seems these days.
But then, as you noted, this is not a real comp/pro game, by any stretch, either. And it won't be, as long as it has such meta extremes.
